Any Bluetooth on/off utilities like this one?

I would like to have an icon to turn on bluetooth and turn off bluetooth without having to go through the menus. Here is a similar tool for the Loox:

theres a utility floating around the forum to enable bluetooth only that you can map to a button, but it only works for the x30 last time i checked...

I don't know how useful this will be but I thought I'd give it a shot. I've put together this small utility that switches on/off Bluetooth. There's no UI, but on my device it switches quite quickly.

Thing is, I don't know if it works with non-MS BT stack. So if anyone tried it, let me know the result.

Update 1: This will not work with non-MS BT stack.
Update 2: Another version that puts an icon in the nav bar at the top is available next page.

there is wifipower that can switch wi-fi on/off.

Does anybody know the difference of WirelessOnOff.exe and WirelessPower.exe?, which one is mapped as default to the side hardware button? and this only works for WiFi right?

@gwinter - great application! WM5 is finally operating the way it should have from the start! I hope I'm not asking too much but is there any way you use 2 icons - one with red and one with white to indicate wheither or not the BT is enabled?

You mean, for example you have a dail-up networking through BT, and when you launch Pocket IE and navigate, the BT will turn on?

To do that would involved quite a bit of work.

WirelessPower.exe should be the one mapped to the button. If you pressed the button twice as instructed, it will execute WirelessOnOff.exe to do the actual turn on/off.

Unfortunately WirelessOnOff controls both WiFi and BT. There are a few registry entries that keep track of which function(s) was used last, and it will turn it (or both) on/off accordingly.

I've been looking at how to turn on/off only WiFi independently. Unfortunately there are no standard high-level API as for BT. Which means that the control messages has to be sent to the driver in order to do the turn on/off. Without this information about the driver from Dell/HTC, it pretty hard to get there.

You mean the icon for the program? That is not possible as far as I know, because which icon is shown in File Explorer or Start Menu is controlled by the Shell, not by the program itself.
