Has anyone tried SwellDisk?
I was browsing PocketGear when i discovered this
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=19541 it's an application that claims to increase your memory 300%, has anyone used this?, and if they have does it work? It could be an incredible price to pay if it really works.... Think about it... 1gb Cf card - $50 SwellDisk $40, thats $90 dollars for a three GB card!! and you could use it on multiple card, or on microhardrives, a 6GB microhardrive could reach 18GB!!! Please post thoughts or if you have used tell me more, it could be a great help...

It's a compression program, along the lines of the old days when we used to use file-compression utilities on our hard drives (in the days of DOS) to increase file storage space. It'll compact some executable files and data files (documents, text files) pretty well, but MP3s, AVIs, and your standard graphic files which aren't bitmaps or vector-line drawings are already compressed about as tightly as they'll go, due to the nature of their compression algorithsm.
If you're carrying around a bunch of Word DOCs or ebook files, this may work for you - if you're going to be putting in music or video files onto such a compressed disk, then you're wasting your money. ![]()

At least you did better than the last guy who complained about the product being a ripoff.
You asked BEFORE buying, and found out why it wouldn't work on videos... again, unlike the last person who posted on this topic.

Then WinRAR should do the same thing for free, right?
I would also imagine it would be pretty slow and take alot of battery life too... contstantly decompressing and recompressing. I really love on the list of features on the bottom is "Easy uninstall". So after you decide you hate this program and paid $40 for it, at least it won't give you any troubles while it's uninstalling. Alright... more SwellDisk ripping, I just love this comment (on a different version and page) "I like the fact that the support email is ceo@swelldisk.com . Straight to the top man!" - Alan C. glenn: dell axim x51, 8GB seagate photo drive (aka: microdrive), generic 512MB SD card, jabra bt620s wireless headset and thanks to Chris: Sena black case! Favorite programs I use everyday: TodayAgenda, WM5 New Menu, Resco FE, Wisbar Advance 2 with Vista Lite theme, TCPMP.

From what I've seen on other people who've used this program (darkdestroyer posted about this, IIRC), it works without slowing down the Axim noticeably... but at the same time, if you lose the Swelldisk program, then you're stuck with a pretty useless bunch of compressed files. Also, programs like this really fell out of favor once hard drives started getting big (over 1-2GB), and the cost-per-byte fell drastically when more manufacturers besides Western Digital and Fujitsu got into the hard drive market (IBM, Maxtor, and others helped accelerate the trend of larger drives with lower costs through competition). This is also rendered somewhat less useful as an option as WM2003SE and WM5 allow programs to be run from expandable storage cards, whose capacities recently (in the past two years) balooned from the relatively low 64-128MB to 4GB+ in size at relatively low costs. Between that and the improvement in the compression algorithms for video and audio information (MP3, OGG, FLAC, WMA, DivX, h264, MKV), these programs have become somewhat outmoded as a lot of the data which most users will WANT to compress to increase their space (digital media) cannot be further deflated by an appreciable amount. Honestly, I'd take the $40 and put it towards a new/bigger SD or CF card. ![]()

Hey there,
I ended up getting this a while ago, thinking it sounded good, and for most part is does work well. I tend to keep my memory card pretty full, and find that it does work, but i just do not use it that often. I would recommend it but not if all your files are movies or music.

It might get stuck!!
Whoa.... I'm afraid it would swell up - and you couldn't get it out of your PPC!
Then what? ![]() | |||||

A chance like this comes along only once in a lifetime, and that doesn't happen very often.....
