Spb backup or Sprite (can you help me out?)

Hi all,

I'll be leaving on a trip soon and i do'nt feel safe with no backup software.

So which one should i get?

I used some of the Sprite beta's and they worked fine.
I'm uncertain if the final version can be saved as exe's so anyone know?
Main problem with this is i do'nt have a credit card so i can't buy this till it hits Handango... which accepts PayPal.

Spb Backup seems very nice and intuitve (sp?),
But one of the main concernce i have is, that ti doen't seem to let me restore only parts.
(aka backup everything yesterday, mess up only one program today... only resotre that program but leave other stuff un touch, evend though somethings have changed aswel, sprite can do this is this is a real + for me)

So any more info on this?
I don't mind the 10 EUR extra that Sprite cost... problem is i don't feel like waiting till the alt minute before i leave in the hopes that Sprite will be avaible on Handango.

Spb's interface seems mutch cleaner though.

*Egerly awaits awser*

I think SPB produces some nice software and is a good vendor generally - but this their first stab at a backup product. So I would say Sprite is worth the wait = they have been a great and reliable backup solution for years and their WM5 product is excellent.

Use the built-in backup until you can get Sprite.
At least you can backup everything.
Been there. Done that. Can't remember.

Actually, I suspect that Spb Backup may be Spb Clone with new wrappings.

Check Menneisyys' review at his blog. According to him, Sprite's currently got some problems with synchronized Exchange Data, so keep that in mind. If you need the incremental backups or Network Backup capability, Sprite's your only choice.

If you just want a backup program, SPB works as well - and costs a bit less, with the ability to create stand-alone images... which the WM5-compatible Sprite no longer lets you create, from what I recall, although you could have Sprite installed on the storage card and run it from there, even after a hard reset.

Spb is just as good (imho) as Sprite for WM5. Matter of fact at half the price its well worth it. I've done restores bunch of times and everyone has been perfect.

Sprite worked well too, but screwed up my exchange sync on restore...

Oh, btw... if you want Sprite buy it from their website. The guy (Clinton Chang?) they have on their forums I recall saying vendors would not get the app for 2 months. I assume so they save some middle man costs...

Another issue with Sprite is that now they do a soft reset before and after a backup. Makes scheduled backups useless.

SPB stops running processes, but no soft reset.

Not sure what you mean by scheduled backups being made useless by a soft reset?? I have Sprite scheduled to run every day and don't have a problem with the schedule repeating.

I've tried SPB Backup and am impressed. It also has an option to automatically soft reset after the backup.

Ive downloaded the SPB trial backup application. It loads fine onto my X51V but when attempting a backup it does not let me go beyond the registration screen. Because of this I am unable to test it out like I have been able to do with SunnySoft and Sprites backup applications. Any one else have this issue?

It should have asked you at installation if you were installing a trial or registered version and you should have chosen trial. If you did not see that or did not choose that you might reinstall.

I schedule my backups overnight. Let's say 11:00pm. Off to bed I go and my pda will start the scheduled backup at 11:00pm. It sits there and waits for me to enter my password to even start the backup. So when I get up and go to use my pda, it now asks me for my password and starts the schedule backup. Usually 5-6 hours late. And I must wait for it to finish to start using the pda.

It's not the soft reset at the end that causes the issue, it is the soft reset at the beginning that only Sprite does. SPB allegedly stops all processes without a soft reset. Now I have tried a restore with Sprite and it was perfect. I have not tried a restore from SPB yet.

I also have Sunnysoft and found it did not restore everything. Not a huge deal, but when I have two other choices....

Real world use...my pda doesn't wake up properly about 75% of the time for a scheduled backup no matter which app I am using (I purchased both Sprite and SPB). So, even SPB is kicking off when I start using the pda (not overnight). But that isn't the fault of either software app. And I have tried the wake up to full power and stay awake longer tweaks to no avail.

Spb is aware of the issue with a delay when a password is set. You might try setting a daily alarm for 11:05pm.

Haven't tried SPB yet but, Sprite has saved my sanity a few times!
Go for Sprite Backup, the Cadillac Backup Program!

harleyxlc,
Sprite doesn't do a soft reset before backing up. It just stops all processes like SPB.
