Tip for new WisBar users

Hello All:

Recently discovered this little trick that makes WisBar even better. The only thing that I didn't like about WisBar was that it made my StartMenu seem sluggish. Bringing up the cascading start menu would sometimes take close to a second and drilling down through submenus was also slow to respond. While it wasn't a "deal breaker", it was annoying to me.

I've found a way to fix it though!

Go into WisBar settings-->Start Menu Settings and check "Cache program icons on startup"

You might have to restart WisBar, but you will soon see MUCH snappier response from your start menu. The tradeoff is (I think) you will have to restart WisBar to see any new icons that you add while WisBar is running, but, that is a small price to pay for much improved performance, IMHO.

Hope that helps somone

Hmmm.... well I tried this little trick but I didn't see any difference in performance. I agree with you that the sluggishness of the cascading menu's is kinda a PITA but I have my most used stuff set up in iLauncher so that I don't have to go into the start menu too often. Thanks anyways.

Yeah, I've been using this trick for a few weeks now, and I've noticed the performance increase comes and goes. It's not quite constant.

Are you all aware that ther is a new version of WA2 out? I ask because the new version (2.5) is dramatically faster compared to 2.0. If you haven't made the switch, you may want to check it out.

You also do not have to use the cascading start menu. You can reassign that button to use the built-in start menu. I am lucky though. Mine is as fast as the built-in.

I have noticed that the image size makes a difference in the speed it takes to open. While this comes as no suprose, I use the menu little enough and it still opens in a reasonable time, I am not in much of a rush to go to a smaller image.

I tried the tip suggested by Forge42 but it didn't work. So I went into Start Menu Settings and UNCHECKED "Don't cache background images" and now the cascading start menu is just as fast as the built-in start menu.
