Question Security Program?

I was at best buy checking out the axim's competition and i noticed that one pocket pc had a thumb scanner program on it for added security. To me that was awesome! I'm wondering if theirs anything like that for the axim that can be downloaded or something? Anyone know?

that would be great to have a thumb scanner on the ax,
or even a eye scanner, that would be a killer
anyone know of a prog for that?

you need much more than downloadable software. Thumb or eye scanners are, obviously, hardware based.

Well when i went to best buy to see the axim's competition one of the pocket pc's said built in security thumb scanner program. It was a program that displayed a box for you to place your thumb in for security on it.

The Ax's display is touch sensitive...it's not optical...as is the case with all PDA's. There's no way this could be accurate. If I'm wrong, please show a link to the device....I'd love to see it.

Well.. I doubt that any software can scan your thumb-prints from the regular PPC screen.... I don't think it's possible....

Agreed. There is no way to fingerprint with just the PPC's screen and some software. Obviously you'd need an Input device of some sort that would use an optical sensor(s) to read your thumbprint.

Okay, just to clarify everything....it IS hardware based. The one that Best Buy sells is the HP iPAQ 5455. I have attatched an image and quote from Pocket PC Central:

Quote:
A small panel is located below the nav-pad in the center of the unit. This can be programmed to accept only certain fingerprints, thereby locking the device to all but users with fingerprints in the iPAQ's memory.

as far as I can gather from the net, the 5455 is the same as the 5450

Yes, it pretty much is. HP/Compaq has always done this with their models. Usually it is either a consumer/business difference (usually software differences). Or else it is a location difference (USA model and Canada model). I'm sure there's other things as well, but these are how some of their previous models have been.
