Simple remote shutdown tool?

Hey all!

My question is very simple. I have just gotten myself an Axim x51v (and very lovely it is too ), and plan to use it lots here at uni to access files on my laptop using network sharing. Mostly to listen to music before bed I suspect *g* (Laptop is pretty much used as a desktop when I'm in the flat, its in the lounge plugged into my TFT, keyboard and mouse, speakers, etc, and unplugging everything to take it to the bedroom is a pain).

My trouble is that I don't really fancy leaving the laptop on all night, that way hotness and a shorter life lies, so I'd like to be able to shut it down across the network, and was wondering if there was a simple PPC app to do this.

I realise I could just use VNC/TSC, but this seems like a very bloaty solution for something so simple. I have a file server back at home, and have handy shortcuts on my laptop's desktop linking to the "c:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe" with the appropriate commands to reboot or shutdown the server, basically I was thinking that some enterprising soul out there must have coded something similar for PPC, and figured if anyone knew you guys would

Cheers for your help folks

I use Salling Clicker. Great application which does what you are asking for and MUCH MUCH MORE. And the unregistered version can perform 30 clicks without activation (more than enough for your specific need).

Cheers akheron, that tool is pretty much perfect for my needs, heck I suspect I'm going to register it because Wifi remote control was also on my list of wants for this thing!

And thanks Zaniax, been lurking here so long in preparation for buying that I didn't realise I hadn't posted before!

Thats exactly what happened to me. I was just using the free trial and then liked it so much that I bought it. Trust me you won't be disappointed! Works great over wifi or BT and there are loads of free scripts floating around. You can even write your own script to control your favorite application. And the bonus is that it comes with clients for all sorts of devices, not just for the PPC. And the support is very good too on the forum..

this what i do: i first telnet the server i want to shut down (mostly my main server which is an optiplex gxa) then once connected i type Shutdown -s -t 00 this will shut the computer down immditly if you want to put a time delay of 60 secounds say then you would type shutdown -s -t 60 and of course you must hit enter after the command in order for it to be transmitted.
