WiFi Companion...HELP!!!!!

I am having problems trying to re-install WiFi Companion to my x51v. The trouble comes when I try to use my Registration key to register the product. The first time I installed WiFi Companion to my x51v, the registration key worked smoothly. No problems.
However, just recently I had to do a hard reset to my x51v (yeah I know...it sucked) and then re-instal all my programs. (I know I should have back up'd, but I am new to the PPC. Now I do use Spb Backup). Anyways, all my other programs re-installed and registered perfectly fine with their registration keys I had from before, with exception of WiFi Companion. I re-install WiFi Companion and I plug in the registration key...but I get an error message saying that the key was incorrect! Why???
I tried to re-activate my software on the Socket website in order to get a new registration key...but it said the product # i used was already registered. (I know that because I'm the one who registered it before.
So now I'm stuck. I can't get a new registration key and the registration key I have does not work anymore. What is going on? I can't get any help from Socket's support menu.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? I really like WiFi Companion and I want to continue to use....but I don't want to pay for it again.
I would really appreciate any help you can give me.
Hands off!!! Get your own Axim!

did you tried to registered the program while you are WIFI accessed ???

my guess is that it "phone home" therefore rendering previous key invalid ...( already registered..etc)

try it again ..this time while offline ... although you might have to start fresh again with the hard reset ... since the registry is already booting the key now

and if you can't access Socket's support menu .. try emailing or give them a call instead

Thanks, but I've already tried it both ways. I sent them an email over a week ago. The site said it should take about 2 business days for a response. I'm not very pleased with the Socket support team. I can't even find a phone number to call either. LIke I said...I'm stuck.
Thanks for your help though.

Anyone else have any ideas???

I had the same issue a while back. If memory serves me correctly, email their support. That's how I resolved it.

Your Owner Name on your device must match with the Owner Name you registered with when you received your registration key (unlock code). For example. If you registered with "John Doe" then you got a key "ABCD1234".

Make sure the Owner Name on your device is "John Doe" with not extra spaces and symbols. Then the registration key should work. To check your Owner Name, tap on START > SETTINGS > OWNER INFORMATION.

If the key continue not to work, it maybe that it is in cached. To clear the cache, type in another owner name and just type in random numbers to get the registration key ERROR message. Once this is done, go back and retype your original Owner Name and use the key.

If this fails, that means you do not have the correct registration key that matches your Owner Name. Contact Socket Support!

Good luck!

In searching for a solution to the same problem, I read your help message. I use WiFi Companion with a Spectec WiFi Card in my Dell X51 and was given a registration/activation key through Handigo. The software stopped working. It took me a long time to realize that I had changed my owner name (or the way in which it read). This stops the programme from working. Providing you still possess the correct registration/activation key, then you must ensure that your owner name is exactly the same (case sensitive) as when you received the activation key. Providing it is correct, then input your activation key and it will register. Suggest you first remove the original software and then reinstall it - and then do a soft reboot. Good luck.

One other thing you might check--I remember that when I entered my registration key it didn't work. On a lark, I tried changing what I thought was the letter "O" to a number "0" (zero) and it worked. Or maybe it was the other way around--I don't recall. But after the change it worked. It surprised me, because the offending letter / number was in a string of other letters and it wasn't intuitive. Give it a try--change O for 0 and see if it works for you. It did for me.

On the basis that the question was asked nearly two years ago, I hope he wasn't holding his breath.
