EXE Installer?

Does anyone know if there is an application to extract files from the .exe files that are used for most installations? I have an x51v with wm5, and I hate activesync. you can open cab files on the ax but not exe's. Why not??

I have found it is possible to extract some cabs from exe files using winzip. Certainly not all though.

Yeah, but developers often assume that we all have no problems with Activesync and are constantly connected to our pc. I suppose that once it was like that, but now with pda's becoming more like pcs there should be that option available. Try Freecabs for lots of, well, freecabs!

some apps have pc components
some apps have detect what type of pda you are installing on, eg Wm5 vga arm, and install that cab instead of the ppc2002 mips cab.
This week I have been mostly listening to..... Short cummings audio

I ususlly extract the cab on pc and install from that on my PPC. To extract cab files (which are not in zip setup format), just run the setup and collect the cab from your activesync folder.

A few reasons:
  1. The user must read and agree to a license agreement before the application can be successfully installed.
  2. The application has a desktop counterpart.
  3. Some users report problems downloading CABs directly to the device.

A couple more reasons:

1. Reinstalling programs (especially after a hard reset) is a breeze when done through ActiveSync.

2. In pre-WM5 devices, installing via ActiveSync will give you the option of install location if CABINSTL is not available on your device for CAB installations.

CAB files are a must for us Mac users with PocketPCs.

I NEVER install into my PocketPC. I put everything (that I can) onto my SD or CF card to save memory.

So, you can use ActiveSync to extract the .cab files, transfer to a memory card, and then install. Note that .NET compact framework will install the .CAB on the desktop to its own directory under Program Files on your PC. No reason why they can't include the "read this and click I agree" notice on the .cab. If you are unable or unwilling to use ActiveSync, you can indeed avoid it, just don't depend upon using the PC component (if applicable) if it is available only through ActiveSync (most files you can simply drag and drop into a storage card using a reader).
Keep CABinstall and your CAB's in a special directory on your desktop or on a memory card, and they will always be at hand.
In my opinion, there is no reason why the end user should not be accomodated when he/she intends to use the PPC as a standalone device. I do understand that there are some advantages to using sync software, but this is not always an alternative for all PPC users.

Installing .exe files on a mac

It can be done, as I do it!

Virtual PC does NOT work with Active sync, but Guest PC does!

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=123052

It's a godsend. Syncing is painful so I just use an exchange server but installing most apps takes a minute or 2 max. I have found it very handy, also should allow pass through internet so egress or avantgo should work too
