Icon13 Sprite Backup always fails me.

Does anyone else have problems with Sprite backup? Everytime I've had to do a restore with Sprite over the past year and half with my Axim x50v everything appears corrupt. Should I got with SPB backup, data backup, or use activesync backup?

Sprite works brilliantly for me. I've done at least three restores in the last year, and it puts everything back exactly as it was. I even used to for a system upgrade and that worked perfectly, too.

When you say "corrupt" what are you seeing?

Overlapping text, programs, images, etc. Everyone is always praising Sprite but I've never had a successful restore with the program. I have had no problems with the activesync backup but I can only make one backup with the program. Maybe there is some way around this with activesync backup?

Maybe you could post your settings to compare with those that some of us use. I use settings that MrKlaatu posted a long time ago and I've always been able to do a perfect restore.

EDIT: MrKlaatu's settings can be found here.

I would deinstall Sprite, soft reset, use a registry editor to remove all traces of it, soft reset again, then install a fresh copy of Sprite Backup.

On my X50V running WM2K3.2 Sprite Backup performs as close to perfect as I can measure.

I seem to have the same settings as MrKlaatu. I have hard reset and reinstalled Sprite, but it always fails me. Maybe I should try SPB backup?

Are you running WM5 or WM 2003 Second Edition on your X50v?

Are you backing up to a SD or CF card?

Well, other than my prior advice, I don't know. I bought both Sprite Backup and Spb Backup and deinstalled Spb Backup.

It does seem rather odd that you state that "Everytime I've had to do a restore with Sprite over the past year and half with my Axim x50v everything appears corrupt" and it is just now a problem for you, though.

I have been doing an overhaul on my Axim (upgrading the ROM, buying a new case, screen protector, etc) so I thought I might as well fix Sprite as well. Thanks anyways for the help. I'm sure Sprite is a great piece of software, it just doesn't seem to work for me.

I would post on their forum and open a tech ticket.
They respond in batches and it may take a week or so, but they should handle it.

It doesn't hurt to give Spb Backup a trial run.

How are you restoring? from PC or SD card?

is it a self restoring backup or are you doing it via sprite?

(Did my last restore 8 days ago after i messed up playing with some new software...)

Just a suggestion, but if you're using the self-extracting method, try a hard reset before attempting a restore. I've used Sprite for a few years and the only time I had a problem was when I tried to restore and some of the files were in use. A hard reset before restoring fixed it.
I've done many restores without any problems, usually after trying software that I did not want to keep, the restore wiped all traces of the install from my ppc.
