Goverment type file wipe
Does anybody know of a program that deletes 'stuff' - I mean really deletes data?
For example, on my computer I have a Norton utility that allows me to do a Government type file wipe (or deletion). Thats what I want for my x50v wm2003se. Why would I need it? When you delete a file, most of the info still exists - you just can't see it - but a good hacker could. It would be rare that I use it, except when deleting financial information. More and more I have personal information on my x50v. Free is the best.

I keep my sensitive (crypto) files on the SD card.
The files can be properly erased from my PC via the cardreader. But you must be aware that there can be decrypted residuals in the ax memory somewhere. This is why a total wipe of your ax may become necessary in rare occasions.

Ouch, that's painful to watch for a nerd like myself... Back on the topic, however, i would agree with zaniax. Although, i was under the impression that the whole residual data thing was a result of magnetic bits not getting completely flipped or something and, thus, was only a problem for magnetic media like "real" HDDs, floppies, etc. Come to think of it though, i myself have recovered data from a formated CF card (my own, don't worry) so i guess i knew it was possible, i just don't understand how. Can someone explain?

speaking of this....
does anyone with an sd card, the .net compact framework installed, and experience recovering deleted files (from said sd card) want to test this out for me?
i need you to put a file on your sd card. use this to delete it, then put the sd card in the comp and try to recover the file in useful form.
