Shutdown Windows XP Style
Description: "With Shutdown for Pocket PCs you can easy perform a soft restart of your device. Of course, you can suspend your device there! The dialog style has the same appereance like the Microsoft Windows XP Shutdown dialog.

I really like using this to do a soft reset. I was afraid over time poking my stylus into the side of my axim would eventually make a hole in the rubber. Now with a tap of the screen a soft reset can be made.

Battery Pack 2003 also has an icon for shutdown AND soft-reset. Much better than the stylus like you mention. I only use the stylus to reset if it is locked up. I soft-reset sometimes if it seems to drag a little, just to clear the insides out.

Drawback is that Battery Pack 2003 isn't free but I use it in the program launcher. I don't even use the battery/memory monitor at all. I use Sprite BackUp Plus 2 for that. It also tells me the last date of backup and when the next Bu is scheduled. I highly reccomend it. It can BU without any intervention from the user. I have it once a week to do so int he cradle. Its nice.

You just be aware that a software reset solution will not always work, so every now and then you have to resort to the reset switch. But instead of poking it with the stylus try pressing it with your thumb. I have no problem doing that on my Axim and definitely the thumb will not poke a hole in the rubber.

Yeah, Nice Start is good for a lot of people, because it also provides a screen requiring Password, and shows system info, calendar, time, etc. at start up. A lot of users on here really like it.

Rather than using a hardware button, or downloading the XP-style on/off/reset app, why not install an app specifically designed to perform a soft-reset when run? I use Philippe Majerus's RESET app.. it's tiny (5K), saves wear-and-tear on your hardware switches, and takes significantly less memory than that other app.

PM also has a SUSPEND program that mimics the behavior of the on-off switch. Again, it's tiny (5K) and doesn't require you pressing a hardware button. I have RESET sitting in the Programs | Accessories folder, and SUSPEND in my main drop-down menu. Use the ARM version of both, they work great!

If you're like me, sometimes shortcuts get hit by accident.

I like the fact of having to select the shortcut, and then ALSO select "Reset" after that. Not that a soft reset is a big deal, but some software doesn't AutoSave before reset!!

I guess we're in the same boat, though RESET does prompt the user for a Yes/No before executing to minimize the chance of accidentally running it. Also, since I've got RESET in my Accessories folder with no other shortcut pointing to it, I have to tap-tap-tap to get at it....hard to do that by accident.

It's not for everyone. It's just an option for folks who want something quick and tiny.
