Question AVirus Installation Problem

I'm trying to install F-Prot ? Anti-Virus on x50 with windows 2003 mobile second edition and having trouble. It's my understanding that I run the setup program on my desktop and it will install it on my handheld via active synch. Active synch is installed and runs fine and connection is established. When I run setup file (xml format),my browser displays the following:

It's xml code - won't show up here when I try to post it...

I'm using licensed copy of winzip. Install button is not visible when file is opened.

All help appreciated - little time and lots to do!

Thanks

PS - Is F-Prot whatever a good AV program for this?

I haven't seen anything that indicates antivirus is even needed for Pocket PC's. Viruses written to run on PC's don't run on PPC, and there have been a grand total of two viruses written to run on PPC, both of them Proof-of-Concept. An antivirus program running on your PPC will use memory and system resources that would otherwise be running your programs smoothly.
I haven't heard of anybody indicating that it is actually a good idea to run an antivirus program on Pocket PC.
So, in summary, no, it's not a good program for AV on PPC, even though it's good on your desktop PC.

I totally agree. It is a waste of money and resources to install an AV program at this point.

Question Clarify - and Email Programs same deal?

Thanks for your replies. My son and I both had Palm m500's so I know very, very little about pocket pc's.

To be sure I understand....

Viruses written for desktop OS's cannot run on or harm windows mobile 2003 se and other OS's running on handhelds - or files and documents on the devices?

He uses Gmail on his and I use Outlook 2003 on mine. Does this make any difference as far as your recommendations are concerned? No risk related to email attachments attachments?

I ended up installing an AVP from Trend Micro. I guess I should uninstall it yes?

Thanks again for your help.

At this time there are no known virus's running in the wild that would affect a pda. Also, since the hard reset would fix any problem then it really doesn't make much sense to use one. That could all change in time but the reason there are all of these virus's out there is because the malicious rats who create them like to read about themselves and since the impact to a pda would be minimal they haven't wasted much time inventing them yet. (my opinion of course!, lol)

I have to agree, there really is no risk unless some one knows that you have a PDA and sends a email to you, and you download the attachment with the virus on purpose.
