I would not advise doing what you are trying to do. It probably won't work anyway. copy the files that you need to keep to a safe place like your sd or cf card and keep them that way. your PIM data will get restored when you sync but load your programs fresh. You will have the best experience that way.

Soft-reset your device, then try the backup.
As long as the ROM versions are the same, I don't think it should cause any issues to restore from the backup.
If you have any issues, you'll need to bite the bullet and reinstall everything.
But bigdave is right. If your life depends on that device, it's best to reinstall.

I don't have a solution for you. Just want yo to know that you are not alone. I backup with Sprite once every 2 weeks for months and everytime the software reassures me that the back up is successful. So I thought that I was safe to do hard-reset as a way to cleanly uninstall many demo programs at the same time, But when I tried to restore with those backup files, each one of them reported some errors. Not all files were restored completely, and the error messages didn't tell me which applications need to re-enter registration code or to reinstall the entire apps again.

Now I bought also Spb Backup, and I still don't know whether it will provide a better solution. I dare not hard reset my x41v for more than 2 months now.
