Software to use x51v as Memory card reader?

Hi all, I remember reading here several months ago about some software that converted your x51 while connected into a virtual memory card reader.

You could explore and launch programs from XP explorer.

Anyone remember this?

What am I missing? I can't see any advantage to installing this software.

For one thing, it bypasses ActiveSync and allows you to transfer files back and forth. I've used it several times on my x50v to copy files to my laptop that I use to sync to my Navman PiN. Then copied the files to the Navman thru it's Activesync partnership.
Nothing is never "no problem".

The early versions were buggy, so I have not tried it yet. I think it will allow you to conect to the USB port of a computer that does not have ActiveSync installed and transfer files. Makes your Axim into a flash drive. Could be very handy.

That would be very handy indeed.

I have a question for those that use it. Does the PC require any additional installs, or is it all on the PPC?

For example. I'm off somewhere and I connect my Axim to some random XP machine. What then? Does it automatically connect, or does it require I install that program?

True portability comes if the Axim just shows up as a memory card the same way a USB Memory stick does.

This is exactly how softick cardexport2 works. I don't need to install any driver before connecting to the USB port of a PC (all my PCs are XP, not sure for the earlier Windows OSs). There is an icon on the Today's screen that allows me to switchbetween ActiveSync mode and card reader mode. And the switching works even though the Axim is already connected to the PC. The only inconvenience, relative to a memory stick/card reader, is to remember bringing the Axim's USB cable with me.

Oh... I forgot to mention another caveat. The data transfer speed is not the same as using a real USB 2.0 card reader (but certainly much faster than USB1.0). I have not collected any data for comparison. My feeling is that it is 3-5 times slower. But it is not a noticeable problem unless I need to transfer video files.
