Backup util for WM2003

I have the X50v but I don't use it super-often. What is the best program to back up my axim and that in the event it dies and loses all data, I can easily just restore it?

For a X50V running WM2K3.2, use Sprite Backup V3.1.4.

I sync my PIM to outlook every day - almost.

For backups I use the build in backup program.
Once a week I make a PIM backup and a total BU once a months - and use Taskmanager to remind me.

I store the BU's and most of my programs and data on my SD memory card and make a total copy to my PC each week.
If you install al your applications via Active Sync then it keeps a copy for you.

This is a very cost effective solution, but requires some discipline

Spb Backup is also highly recommended.

Moved to Utilities.

How is sprite better than Spb? and what is the latest version that works with WM2003? All I see is WM5 on their site!

Sprite works.

Try this link for V3.1.4 (WM2K3.2) of Sprite Backup.

You're saying Spb backup just doesn't work?

Did not in my testing. A number of issues. Not all data was restored, would not start a scheduled backup run if the PDA was locked, shut down WM services and did not restart them.

But, it does have a trial download. It seems to work for other folks. See if it does for you. After all, Sprite does not even have a trial download.

The built-in Backup program worked fine for me with WM 2003, I'd recommend it. The WM5 version is hopeless, though,IMHO.

I use SKTools with SKScheMa and MightySync. SkTools Backup works just fine. The options are very flexible. I have done a complete restore a couple times with no problem. SKScheMa is a very handy program to do many many many schedule tasks. It is very flexible. The combination of backups is limitless. Then the backup is also synchronized to my hard drive with Mighty Sync. All is good.

Sounds good ... can you recover the individual files from your back-up without access to an axim ?

Reason for asking: I just crashed my ax ...

I do not think you can. The files would need to be extracted on the PPC. That is why I backup the backups on the PPC to the PC with MightySync. It works.

If you can't get access to your BU-files on a PC then the BU is not much worth when you have lost your PDA - stolen or crashed.

Even with a new Axim you're lost if you change the model.
I had a X3i but I don't want to buy such an old model again just to get hold of my valuable files.

Need a more foolproof system - next time.

Well, considering that there may well be no new Axims, that may not be much of an issue.

However, this does bring up a good point. Critical data needs to be readily accessible. This could mean access to PDA backup files on a PC, or it could be accomplished by having the data stored in a non-proprietary format, or it could be a simple as having the data in an application that has both a PDA and a PC component (e.g.: SplashID; Outlook; ListPro; ...).

This make voluntary as well as involuntary migrations and recoveries much easier!
