spb Backup - Yes or No?
I tried to use the above app on my x51v after a hard reset and it loaded OK but the device locked up. After several tries I just reloaded everything. This ver. was 2 back from the present version. Has anybody else had success or failure with this app?

I have been using Spb Backup for about 6 months now and have not had any problems. I have been fortunate and have not had to do a Restore yet

I think Spb backup is the best and simplest to use backup solution there is. Sprite is good too, but if I was going to buy one, it'd be Spb.

For me, Spb is the only one that has consistently given troublefree and accurate restores.

If you want to do unattended, scheduled backups with Spb Backup, then my answer would be don't use it. Scheduled backups don't work on the x51v. Checkout this thread: http://www.spbclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2284. There are some that will say set an appt. to go off when you want Spb to initiate the backup. That may work for some but didn't work for me and others. Spb seems to be aware of the problem but is slow to resolve it. I've stopped using the scheduling part on my x51v.

I have not found one backup program that is reliable for scheduled backups with password protection enabled (built in password protection or using pocketsecure). That is disappointing. Sk Tools, Sprite, and the built in backup seem to do fine if manually started and password is off. It is a good idea to experiement with the programs and try the backups with your system (hard to do with sprite because they do not do evaluation versions).

I do have password enabled, maybe that was my problem. From now on I'll turn it off when I do the backup. Thanks for the info. | ||||

Password protection was never a problem with my backups in WM2003 SE but WM5 has had problems with the password protection. I am not just saying this out of opinion. I am dilligently trying to find a relyable backup solution for me and I have baught all the programs and am satisfied with none of them for scheduled backups on a password protected devise. I have noticed, today, that in SK Tools if I restore the backup in two steps I have a complete machine again. The steps I have had to use are 1. Restore all files by accessing the view section of the program and selecting "check all". 2. I restore the registry separately. That worked. What a pain. Still my best success for one step is with Sprite but that has been spotty and I am still experiementing with it and options in the PocketSecure program. Sprite is really fast. That is nice so I want Sprite to work 100% with some sort of password protection. I am now trying different password protection programs.
