Sprite Backup-Scheduled backups ?

On my old 50 (running 2003SE), I had Sprite Backup scheduled to back-up at night. I had Sprite set-up to turn the Axim on, do a backup, and then turn off. I now have an X51 running Windows Mobile 5. I have scheduled the back-up fot night again. Will the Axim turn on automatically to perform the backup?

Thanks for the quick reply.
On the older mode lit seems there was a more involved process to set this.

You could have an issue on WM5 with Sprite Backup if you also have both PocketBreeze and PocketInformant installed.

Also, look at the version you are using.
The older version 3 isn't WM5 compatible.

Good catch! Sprite Backup has two different versions and WM5 requires an upgrade.

Sprite Backup 5 for WM5 does do scheduled backups. At least it did before I canned it for Spb Backup. Spb Backup also does scheduled backups. Mine just did its weekly scheduled backup without problems.

Thanks for the heads up , but I bought the latest version for the new PDA because of the change in operating systems.

I do appreciate all the replies and help.

Problems come when you use a password protection on the PDA with all of the backup programs. I have also noticed that restoring backups is not always complete with any of the programs. The best I have seen is with Sprite but still some passwords do not transfer across and some programs have haded to be reloaded. I played around with my SK Tools backup file today and found that I could get a precisis restore if I do it in two steps: manually restoring all files first and then manually restoring the registry. That worked (once). I was surprised. I would recommend that you not fully trust your backups unless you try your program a few times in a real world style experiment.

I don't use password protection. However, I've found that both Spb and Sk Tools backups restore accurately. While, the Sprite backups have never restored correctly, at least on my system.

I bought Sprite Backup, Spb Backup, and SKTools.

Only Sprite backs up when a password is in effect without external overt mechanisms to circumvent it.

Sprite has also proven to be the most reliable in restoring in my experience.

SKTools has a number of other valuable function besides backup, of course.

YMMV. It is always good to have choices.

I am glad you are haveing such a positive experience with password protect and sprite but it is not working out for me on any of my tries with the built in password protection on my system. Not sure why. The best for me has been PocketSecure with Sprite but that is still not perfect. I have had to reload some software and codes. No rhyme or reason found so far. Its frustrating because I had a perfect and reliable backup system on my x30 High. I am sure I will work it out however. I have some time off so I am making it my project before I am back in the field.

And I am sorry that you are having difficulties.

I looked at and tried several of the various supplemental security options on the PPC, including Pocket Secure, but did not find that there was enough advantage to using them over the standard WM password lockout in my usage, so I just use the built-in security. I also found that there was often interference with other programs, sometimes even after deinstallation of the supplemental security program, requiring manual registry cleanup.

I ran a supplemental security program for quite awhile on my Palm PDA, but eventually discontinued use of it there, too, for much the same reasons.

The supplemental security programs obviously do provide some advantages to some folks, though. Again, YMMV.

I have sprite and an x50v w/wm2003se. And after a few months the scheduled backup feature just stops working. So I reload sprite and same thing happens. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm thinking of getting spb backup.

I have noticed a number of things that fall over seemingly without cause. ActiveSync, anyone?

On my Palm PDA two different backup programs ran every day (BackUpMan and BackUpBuddyVFS); I do not like having "all my eggs in one basket".

On the PPC I have Sprite Backup, Spb Backup, and SKTools available. I currently do not have Spb backup installed, but I could if I wanted to!

Choices are good.
