spb Backup doesn't restore -- any ideas?

I have spb Backup and while it appears to make a backup file without errors (something the built-in backup did not do), I cannot get it to restore.

spb support said it had to do with the CF card, so in the last exercise in futility, I did a backup to the device, copied the backup file to the CF card, did a hard reset, copied the backup file back to the device, then tried to restore.

When I go to restore, the spinning color wheel just goes around and around. After 5-10 minutes, it stops, but the files are not restored. (I was originally getting an error message that the backup file had been corrupted, but I no longer get that.) There's no restore log or file that I can see.

spb support takes 3-5 days to reply to each message, so does anyone here have any ideas in the meantime? Thanks in advance!

You don't say what device you are using: have you flashed the ROM?

Try resetting the Regional Settings.

sorry, I'm new to the Axim world, so I don't actually understand what flashing the ROM means. And which Regional Settings would I change (and why)?

And to be really detailed, would I do that after the backup and hard reset but before the restore attempt?

Ive got an Axim x51v.

LOL, assuming that you bought the unit new, we don't need to worry about the first part!

On the Start Menu, tap Settings, System (tab) and Regional Settings: Change the settings to your location.

Locate the backup and double tap it: it should auto-restore. If it doesn't copy the backup to the main memory on the device and try it from there.

Yup, bought new, so "phew!"

Settings are set to my location, so there's nothing to change to make it correct.

And tried doing that, but the wheel just spins and nothing is restored. I tried copying the backup file to the device (how do I know if it's in "main memory"?... it's in the "My Documents" folder on the device itself).

I'm working around it by copying all my data files (not Notes or Appointments or Contacts) to my CF card. Come to think of it, is there a way to copy those manually?

Thanks!

Ok, I may have figured this out. I did a "custom" backup but backed up all types of data, and saved it to the root volume of the device (not "My Documents", which was the default option). That appeared to have worked!

Good to know!

Thanks for all the advice!
