HTC X-Button: Another "X = Close" program...

Looks like there is a another alternative to Magicbutton and vBar from HTC. The tool posted on XDA Developers for the HTC Hermes seems to work well on the X51v and does a good job of being yet another "close really means close" utility. It is larger than vBar, smaller than Magicbutton and lacks almost all of the advanced features of either, but it makes up for it in simplicity and the fact that it doesn't seem to have the problem with the Dell WLAN tool that Magicbutton suffers from.

It has a simple idea and only a couple of options, you can either have tap-and-hold to quit an app, this is the default and leaves the standard operation for a quick tap as minimise, or just tap to quit. The settings can be found in the Control Panel at the bottom of the System tab, look for "X-Button"

I did find an updated version on their ftp site under the Wizard uploads folder, but it did not seem to work properly on the X51v.
pencil and paper: n.An archaic information storage and transmission device that works by depositing smears of graphite on bleached wood pulp. More recent developments in paper-based technology include improved ‘write-once’ update devices which use tiny rolling heads similar to mouse balls to deposit colored pigment.

Tried it on the Treo 750 ... it runs but doesn't restart automatically after a reset.

Too bad too because it would be nice to have. Magic button seems to mess up the colors of the top bar on wm5 and all the others are too bloated.

This is great. I had problems with both Magic Button and vBar. This is so simple and in combination with the switcher bar it does all I want. I put a shortcut for SwitcherBar in my startup file in windows. As far as I can see it is significantly less of a resource hog than vBar (which is not much of a resource hog). When I compare resources before and after instalation of both programs with actual usage. After every trial I soft reset and ran SK-Tools Free Ram multiple times, Memory panel in settings indicated the following (in parentheses indicates the highest result):

My system without any task manager=24.34 (.42) M

vBar 23.32 (.54) M

x-Button 24.20 (.35) M
x-Button with Switcher Bar 24.10 (.28) M

So, it looks like x-Button with Switcher Bar is lighter on system resources than vBar.
