Cisco Console connections

I think I've found a good perplexor.
I have the Axim setup and talking serial cable console to Cisco routers and to other party ethernet switches, but I cannot get it to console into a Cisco 2950 switch. ???
Obviously, I have all the cables and am using Pocketty lite.
Is anybody out there able to console into both a Cisco router and switch with the same cable? ...or what ???

THX Folks!

Different cables

Usually, it takes a crossover cable to connect to Cisco routers, and a standard patch cable to connect to switches with an RJ-45 connector.

What hardware are you using to connect your Ax to the routers? I'd really like to know.
The news story that made my signature clever has been deleted, lost into the aether that is the home of all bits deleted from the internet. I'll fix it when I find something else clever that hasn't yet been Fark'd or Slashdot'd.

I am using the light blue console cable that came with the switch and a 9 pin (straight) gender bender.

I am also familar with the differing needs of different units. We are in the process of changing out different manufactor's swiths with cisco. i.e. nortel, SMC (yuck!), 3com, and HP.
Some of these require a straight cable, others a cross-over, I have already tried both. I cannot console into the SMC (model 6624) either, but I can get into the Nortel 450-24.

THX

THX Folks!
As a LAN/WAN admin, and a new Axim owner I'm very interested in the hardware your using.

Specificly how are you connecting your Axim to the router. I get the cable bit, but what card are you using and which software ??

thx for your reply.

As near as I can figure, the solution would be to use the serial synch cable, with a M/M adapter on the end. From there, use the normal serial port<->RJ45 adapter.

I was hoping someone made a single cable with only two connections. One end for the Axim, one end with the RJ45 port.

Anybody have an idea how much the Axim serial synch cables run for? I could try to wire up something myself, if I could pickup a cheap serial cable.

Old Thread, but anyway:

Cisco Switches only do RTS/CTS handshaking, but do not have/honour DTS/DTR signals, which leads to the driver circuit in the axim/calbe not being activated.

A simple and quick (and dirty?!) solution for me was to use the CTS wire out of the switch as DSR signal. I just exchanged the wires in the Cisco RJ45-DB25 adaptor...

And now routers and switches will talk to my axim
