Most taskbar utilities will give you one or more ways to shutdown your Ax.

If your looking for something
simpler and faster then Shutdown XP
You can use
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/poweroff.shtml
which simply turns it off, w/o giving you any options
like restart... all it does is turn off your unit

Like I said...there are quite a few utilities out there hehe!

I just got handymenu...it's great...although paying for it took longer than installing it...seems pretty customizable which is cool

I haven't been using it for a long time
but since I got I'm very happy with it
I like the customization feature too (as you said it very customizable)
and it doesn't take alot of memory too

I will add my recommendation for Shutdown XP style. It also lets your perform a soft reset using the program. It is very nice, and takes up very little room. Plus, it is free, which makes it even better.

I have shutdown XP too
but It's slow (I thin that's because it takes a screen capture and grays it out)
or maybe because I have the basic Axim (300MHz)

I don't have any problems with it being slow, but of course, I still have 40 MB of main memory free.

I didn't get what you mean by "but of course, I still have 40 MB of main memory free."
I have HandyMenu installed on the compact flash ~90KB, and I loked at the main memory in my device (when it's running and when it's not) and the differnce is only 0.10 MB (100KB)
so I don't know aout this "40MB" you are talking about

Am I missing something ?
