As near as I can tell, there seems to be some "indescretion" on the part of TodayPlus as to how they access their Weather Information, which conflicts with the AximSite Rules.

Not to mention, other Rules......leaglly speaking, hence the apparent shutdown of their Downloads/Site in general. ???

According to srs the writer of the application and the owner, he doesn't mind discussion of the application but not the posting of the hack or the binary code. This all started because someone on the PDACorps forum sent an email to the moderator saying that he was srs, and if they didn't remove the threads he would contact his lawyer. SRS intern contacted the same moderator and informed him that he did not write the email and he doesn't care about talking about it, as I stated above. AximSite never allowed any of the hacks being posted, so there was no real reason to remove it. It just got blown out of hand.

OOOOOOH, ok so then I didnt do anything wrong, just what other people were posting. Thanks, that clears everything up. Makes me wish that guy hadnt hacked the dll for people...i hacked it for myself tho.

When you start modifying the code in order to bypass some of the features it gets into a gray area. Doing so usally breaks most softwares TOS. I dont know much about this program or the "modifications" that these hacks do but aximsite could be held responible for distributing this info. So I error on the side of caution more then anything else while I try to research the actual TOS of the program

SRS has contacted me again and clarified a couple of things to me, as well as acknowledged for a second time that there is nothing illegal on this site with regard to TodayPlus, and that he is happy for the discussion to continue. A bit of investigation is making it increasingly apparent that the original mail (and a subsequent threat that has since arrived) has originated from one of our own members. I don't see the point of me naming the person here as I don't want to see a public lynching taking place. I have no idea what motivated the person to take this course of action, but I don't intend to do anything more than block access to the IP address range that was used.

If I had any reason to believe that anything untoward had been posted about TP on these forums, I would have them deleted. If SRS requests that the TP threads are deleted, even though they have no illegal content, then this will be respected and they will be removed. Until the time comes that SRS himself asks that they be removed, they will stay.

Given that I have communication from 'the real' SRS which states that everything is ok, I will need something more conclusive than 'I am the real SRS' in any threats if I'm to take action. If anyone else thinks they have a suitable claim to have them removed, please do send me a mail explaining exactly what aspect of any particular post causes offence. I'm happy to listen to any reasonable claim, but the threats I have received so far are simply claiming that any posts relating to TodayPlus are the copyright of SRSoffense, which clearly isn't the case. SRS himself has confirmed that he is happy for such posts to continue, so clearly he is not of the belief that when our members speak their words become his intellectual property.

The legality of any discussions regarding TodayPlus isn't a matter of question. SRS has made it clear that as long as no binaries, hacks, cracks, etc are distributed, and discussion of such doesn't take place, then the discussions can continue. If any posts are to be removed, they will be done so as a matter of goodwill, not as a matter of obligation. The only person I know of that has the right to make a legitimate claim to make such a request is SRS, and now that SRS has contacted me, AND I've been able to verify the integrity of the email address that was used, I will be expecting such a request to originate from that address if it is ever made. From what SRS has said I'd be surprised if he changes his mind and asks me to remove them.

For the sake of avoiding the potential for wrongly accusing anyone of anything, please continue not to theorise about who sent the original demand to remove the threads. If the perpetrator can't find the time to get on with his own life instead of assuming the role of somebody else's (ie the threats continue, or they continue to create aliases for themselves in this forum) then I will stop protecting their identity which will no doubt lead to much embarrassment.

See I was wondering why all the posts were taken down as well, but I was not going to upset someone and complain about it either.

We were talking about how to get the Weather / RSS feeds working because I was having problems with it. I didn't mention hacking the program or anything like that. (You can get the program working if you are willing to roll back the clock / date, which was fine with me).

But I posted a question about how to get it to work, I posted screen shots of what was going on, so on and so forth.

I really didn't think I was doing something against the rules, so sorry Mod's !!!!

And to this day, I still have not gotten the dang program to work correctly, cause all I wanted was to see the weather on the Today screen.

Thanks to Bookie and joelw135 for all the help with my problems.

basically I acted on the side of caution. With out speaking to the actual author of the program I do not know their intentions or not.

Modifying the dll in order to get it to function either in a maner it was not designed for or to by past the expire date could be conseved as "hacking" the program or reverse engineering it. Again I removed more for the direction it was heading could have been in a gray area.

Wildcat, i would run a search of the forums for todayplus, there are detailed directions on how to hack the dll, you might want to remove those too if you want to get rid of all of this
