Question Questions about Disaster Recovery Procedures with Sprite Backup

Hi,

I am about to thoroughly test out the restore function of my x5. The last thing I want to encounter is not haveing the restore work when I am in the field working. I have the x5 configured just right and have made a Sprite backup. I have all my applications on the main memory. Games and documents I have on a 512 SD card. I backup my entire system to the built-in memory as well as off site on my Desktop. I have the backup compressed as well as self restorable. I assume that this feature allows me to execute the restore without having to install Sprite.

1- Is Sprite backing up everything, i.e. even the docs and apps on the SD card?

I am assuming that if I wipe my SD card and wipe my x5, the Sprite self restorable file located in my built-in memory, will bring my x5 back to it's latest condition of the last backup. Do we agree with this?

All comments are appreciated.

Uncheck Persistent Storage

If you have the persistent storage box unchecked under the exclusions list, it will back up the entire contents of the SD card and BIS. If it is checked, it will only backup main memory, not BIS and your SD card. Check out the attached thumbnail. I have it checked because I don't want it to backup my SD and BIS. You would want it to be unchecked.

Edit: I have the Programs box in the thumbnail below unchecked, not sure why its showing up as checked in the screenshot.

Very large file when persistent storage is unchecked

Thanks Wooch,

I tested it out and it all worked fine. When persistant storage is unchecked, my backup file was 150 MB! It's only 22mb when I do not include the SD. So, I have decided to have to backups. one of each and I'll backup the larger one once a week and keep it on my USB stick and do daily backups without SD onto the built-in storge.

LOL, That's why I don't back up my persistent storage, I just use an SD card reader to copy the contents of my SD card to my laptop once a week, then I put it into a zip file for storage, which decreases the size by 33%.

I have operated the the two backup scheme for some time now and find it successful and gives you belt and braces support.
I auto schedule daily to my SD and then weekly backup BIS and SD to my PC.

Yes, with a program called MightySync, which you can get from http://www.mydocsunlimited.com/ - very reasonably priced at $5.95. This lets you back up files from locations other than My Documents, such as storage cards or file store. I auto backup to SD Card daily, then each time I ActiveSync with my desktop, MightySync kicks in and syncs the SD Card (and File Store) as well. Even though I have a card reader in my pc, this works better for me because it all happens automatically.

Yes
You need the Spite pc service running on desktop.

On Axim under Options>Backup Options>Edit Exclusion list uncheck Persistant storage. Under File on main backup screen tap .... select pc under location. Hit backup and it will startthje backup sequence to your pc.

You can check and uncheck what files you want on BIS or Persistant Storage.

^^ This is only if you have Sprite Premium, you can't backup directly to PC with Sprite Standard. You can uncheck the persistent storage option in the exclusions section, and create the backup to your SD card (space permitting), and then transfer the backup file manually to your PC.
Best Regards,
