How to Sprite restore from SD after hard reset

My X5 is having a little problem, so I want to do a hard reset and then restore from a Sprite backup on an SD card. What is the correct procedure to do this?

If the backup file on your SD card is a self-restoring backup file (.exe) you can simply hard-reset the Axim, the execute the backup file to restore everything contained in the backup file.

If the backup file is a regular Sprite backup (.pbf) file, you will need to install Sprite Backup on your PPC first, then run the restore from within Sprite Backup.
Ted.

Yep, I should have created a .exe file, but it is only the standard type. Maybe you have some insight on this problem: My X5 hung and I did a soft reset. Numerous programs now seem to be missing. i.e. the icons to start them show just the default window for not finding the program, and of course the program can't be started from the icon. Sprite seemed to still be working, so I did a restore from the SD card, but after the reset following the restore, the programs don't come back (or at least, the icons still aren't right) Any ideas?

It sounds like it only did a partial restore. I've been getting this more and more lately. I am a big advocate of Sprite backup, but I haven't had a smooth restore since installing the latest revision. I can finally get it to restore, but I have to jump through alot of hoops to do so. If the issue persists during my next restore, I'm going to open an issue with Sprite. I haven't added any new apps, so I doubt this is a factor. Anyhow, still a great app!
Best Regards,

Wooch

That is what is appears to be doing. I actually have a full backup on my laptop at home, so I'm going to try that later. It is newer anyway. Hopefully, it'll restore everything.

If you keep a Sprite CAB file handy that's a big help. Just copying that to main memory (after a hard reset) and tapping it lets you find a backup file on the SD and use it for a full or a selective restore. Likewise installing again from the PC will do the same, but that's not always convenient. Like, if you're 1000 miles from home...

I've found the last couple of Sprite versions overly complex, visually, while delivering lesser performance. Too many bells and whistles. Restores sometimes don't complete, with an auto-soft reset interrupting. I've had to try as many as 4 times one day to get a complete restore. It could be that the code is scrambling signals relating to scheduled backups, but I've no idea really. I have raised this on the Sprite board, along with other issues, and Sprite has assured that they're working on it.
