Freeware: File Changer Dialog
One of the things I occasionally run into, is when I want to save a file, and the program (ex Pocket Word and Excel) limits me to specific locations where I can save it. Apparently, some programs call up a file dialog which is built into the PPC OS, which has this limitation.
File Changer Dialog is a unique little freeware utility (5kb) which corrects this issue. It lets you save the file anywhere on your PPC. You can read about it and download it here:http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/...?soft=752#7279 The author is Japanese, and so is the download website, but you should be able to find the download link. I had no trouble. I gave instructions on how to load the utility in my comments at the above pocketpcfreewares webpage. Once you've tried this tiny app, you will understand why it is so useful. The developer has also created other PPC apps which fix other quirks in the PPC OS as well. His(her?) app called System Path, lets you store modules (like .dll files) on your Storage Card which normally need to be kept in the Windows folder. The app tells Windows where to look for the files when they aren't present in the Windows folder, just like the PATH command did in the good old days of MS DOS. The developer's website should be called "Fixs for PPC Annoyances!"

Since a picture is worth a thousand words ....
Many programs call the built-in dialog (lower left), which limits where you can save files. I'm certain all of you are very familiar with this screen, and how it prevents you from saving files anywhere except the folders in the dropdown list, which do not include subfolders, and does not include most of your main memory folders. The File Change Dialog program (lower right) replaces the built-in dialog, and gives you the screen shown in the AFTER picture below. If you notice the icons at the bottom, you will see it gives you the ability to save files anywhere on your PDA. Once you've used this app, you will understand its many benefits !!! BEFORE: AFTER:![]() To make it easier to use, I created a shortcut to the filechgdlg.cpl, and put it in my Start Menu, so I can easily execute this app if it isn't currently running. Once you turn it on, it stays on, unless you reset your PDA, or turn it off manually.

This thread at Brighthand.com provides answers to several questions about File Change Dialog.
And since the File Change Dialog developer's website is in Japanese, this information is useful. If you ever want to view a webpage written in another language: 1) Go to the website 2) Copy the URL from the Address window 3) Go to www.google.com 4) Paste the URL into the Search Box, and press the "Google Search" button. 5) When website is listed in the search results, you will see a "Translate This Page" link. Hit that, and you're in business! This Japanese Website becomes this English webpage when translated in Google.
