Big Smile Extracting CABS from EXES (Mac OS X, Fedora, Redhat etc)

Ello,

Being a Mac/FreeBSD User proved to be a bit of pain in the bum when it came to my newly aquired Axim x30, I found i couldn't sync it with my mac !! But still got it being drawn to the fact that there was a solution from PocketMac and the Missing Sync Etc.

So i went and bought it and found out that PocketMac and Missing Sync are a hefty 50 squid

Anyways,
I looked at SynCe
http://synce.sourceforge.net/synce/

Pros: Its free
Cons: Really only syncs with Evolution

On the mac there is a tool to allow serial over USB but it only supports 2 devices, but! you can use bluetooth ! I discovered this by accident after installing it then i said to myself , Hey ! i can just use the bluetooth serial utility !

Voila, got it to connect to the mac, but i'll be damned if i'm moving all my crap from Mail to Evolution and running X on top of that.

So i bought PocketMac Lite for 14 euro
I deviced the only real missing useful feature was the cabextractor.

So after using it, i realised , Hey , theres a little app called orange thats part of the wince project

Downloaded , compiled and installed (after editing the makefiles with instructions from the wince page)

Ran it

And woo hoo ..
got cab files from an exe tested with quite a few apps and it works fine.

So if i want to install an app on my pocket pc now i don't have to run Virtual PC anymore to do it , i just get the exe, open up the terminal, type "orange nameoffile.exe" and i'm left with the cabs (arm mips etc) in the same DIR

The only hard part is it can be a bit tricky if you've never compiled and installed an app before, but your luck is in if you have Redhat, Gentoo, Fedora or Debian they have premade packages for those.

Anyways ,
Thought you mac users would like to know as its a bit self defeating to have to run windows on a mac to install apps on your little pocket pc

Any problems with the install just post to this message and i'll try to help

Keith.

P.S. you need the OS X developer tools to install it (obviously since you need to compile it)
