If you press and hold the Power button that will turn off your Backlight. If you want to completely turn off the screen all I know is that the Pocket Music Bundle from Pocket Mind does that. I do not use WMP so I do not know if that program has the feature.

I just checked and WMP can do that also. Go to options and then button assignments then go all the way to the bottom and select screen toggle and put a button to it and you are set.

Betaplayer also does this. It's a free program and uses less battery life than WMP. I was listening to MP3s this afternoon, for 51 minutes. My battery life dropped from 72% to 67% with the screen turned OFF and my earphones in. Not bad eh? (X50v)

I know WMP on the x50v does it but has anybody gotten it to work? I can't assign any other buttons other than the D-Pad. And that is already used for volume up down and next/prevous track. Every time I try to assign a button to the screen toggle it won't assign it.

It's a bug with WMP. Unfortunately there's no workaround besides using another player.

GSPlayer2 has a screen-off option (and a sleep timer), as well as EQ settings and it'll stream MP3s (and OGG) over a network. Oh, and Shoutcast as well.

I've been using this for a couple of weeks and have to say it's excellent.

And freeware, too

In BetaPlayer go to Options>Settings>Select Page>Hot Keys and then 2nd from the bottom is an option called "Screen On/Off" and you click assign, and then map it to a hardware button.

Have Fun.

I use Toggle.exe it's free. I assign it to a button and press it when listening to MP3.

I use a program called double launcher that lets me assign more than one pgrm to a key.

I use WMP and assigned the action button to screen off toggle. Thats the button in the center of the D-pad. So left and right on d-pad deal with songs forward and backward, up and down d-pad is for volume.
