sprite backup versus built-in backup util
I see so many peeps using it, but I'm not sure why. I haven't had my axim very long, so I haven't tried a recovery yet. But what am I missing?

I use both. I do the on-board one when i install new software because it is much easier to do a restore since the program is native. I bought sprite before the x50v so i still use it. the biggest reason to use it is that it will backup bis and your sd/cf cards if you set it up to do it. the onboard one won't do that. Also, scheduled backups are handy.

nope. It's actually faster to use since the setup is virtually nothing.

I have both but end up using the built in backup utility. It is not as convenient but I have found it to be more reliable. I have had issues restoring on sprite but never on built in. My laptop is usually within reach so I gave up on sprite. If you do not need to restore from your PDA do not waste your $$.

I think sprite is far better... there are lots of added features but the killer app for me is the fact that it backs up automatically everynight at 11pm... So if anything goes wrong then I can jump straight to the last backup. I kept forgetting to do backups with the built in app. So $30 for someone to do it for me is a bargain
That and a couple of incomplete restores from the Built in App convinced me. Sprite is to my data..... what my ALU case is to my Axim... Some people like the supplied Slip case.... and some people like the Built in Backup util. I didn't so in both cases I bought better ones

I just installed sprite and it's awesome. It displays on my today screen the battery level, memory levels and a few other bits of info, it backs up info far faster than the built in utility, it backs up all your memories, and it gives you far more options.

Any good alternatives to Sprite?
Their recent decisions to NOT upgrade PocketMon to VGA and to discontinue Sprite Backup Basic have soured me slightly. http://www.spritesoftware.com/forum/...pic.php?t=1582

in my experience, restores from built-in backup utilies do NOT usually able to have a FULL RESTORE (which would presuppose that even the BACKUP wasnt complete)...
thus, ever since, Sprite has been the app for me - i would never trust a built-in backup utility again...
