Opinions on TransAct Please

Hi everybody! Was wondering what your thoughts were on TransAct. I use Act 2005 Premium for Workgroups at work and as far as I know, TransAct isn't ready for this yet at version 7. I am debating putting TransAct on my x50v for now, because I am looking for a contact/calender type deal and have been using Act for years on my desktop and notebook. I am coming from the PDA world of a Clie and DateBK5 which I LOVED. For some reason, I can't quite grasp either PC Informat or Agenda Fusion. I tried reading their "users guides" but the ones I saw weren't written too great and I got lost. So if anybody can give their thoughts on Trans Act and any other easy to use programs like Agenda Fusion/PC Informant, I would really appreciate it!!!!!!

Hi muffincake and welcome to the site. I have had similar concerns as you. Firstly, transact won't work w/act 2005. I use act 6. Transact was just fixed so it works w/ppc 2003se, which is what your pda has, so that's good. If you can downgrade your act then you're ok. Another member whos name escapes me, loves transact. I tried it b/f they did the fix and found it unusable at the time.

Since then I got a palm tungsten T from my brother in law as a 2nd pda. On that I loaded act for palm os, which is ok. I'm sure transact is better. See this thread for some more input. I'm dying for act on my ax, and companion link and act link are not acceptable. I am seriously considering transact. Meanwhile, I don't think your company will scale back to act 6.

I have a question for you. Did datebk5 sync w/act?

I found PI to be pretty good, but I didn't want to work w/outlook, so I unloaded it. If it worked w/act it would be a winner.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks for the welcome and your thoughts Steve! Well, I used DateBK5 on my Clie for a few years after graduating college. I got along pretty well just syncing to the "palm software" on my PC. I don't believe it synced to Act. My position at work was just beginning and has expanded almost instantaneously(sp) in the past few months. Back then I barely used Act so just using my Clie for personal stuff and visually adding and whatever to Act at work was fine. So, I treated myself to the Axim hoping I could blend my personal activites with business. I depend on Act now daily at work, I don't have it on my home PC. I LOOOOVED DateBK5 as a planner and contact manager for personal stuff and I LOOOVE Act at work PC for it's numerous amazing functions. I called Act Add Ons and they said there will be a TransAct for 2005 Premium Workgroups in a month or so. I'm trying not to get excited, but I hope it's true!

Great news, I hope transact will come through. They seemed quite responsive when I emailed them, and this is their bread and butter, so I feel it will happen. Better late than never. If you get transact for act 2005 write a short review telling us how it works for you.

good luck.

I used ACT for Palm in the days when I was a Palm user. Of course, no such beast for ppc. I currently use the Actlink (included with Act). It is mediocre, but is better than nothing for me. My primary use on the ppc is to sync a bunch of activities and notes so that I always have info about my customers at the tip of my fingers.

I also carry a laptop on the road, so it is pretty easy to update sales calls on the fly.

Ya, I'll post if they get around to Act 2005 for workgroups. I think it will be something huge, workgroups is a pretty darn big beast on the PC......Robman, I was debating on getting the Axim or the D410 actually. I NEED portability and easy to use but I may have to get the D410 instead. My main need is Act and email, so it's hard on the Axim right now. I don't know, I may just tough it out until TransAct works for Workgroups. I love this thing =)

Well, I won't be posting about that because I returned my Axim =( Not for any negative reason really, I just really need more capability and compatability with work. So, I returned it and I am getting an Inspiron 700m! I wish I could get the Latitude D410 but it was alittle to pricey. I'll be able to get the 400m and get a copy of Act Workgroups on there and still be able to sync! Plus I can get more work done with the keyboard. So albeit a short time I enjoyed my Axim, it was fun. But I need to move on up to a little notebook =)
