Do pocket mechanic and memmaid do the same job?

Do I need both? Do I need them at all?

Which is best?

Please help a newbie

It is advisable to clean out invalid registry entries or values,Temporary and Junk files from time to time after installing or uninstalling programs. This keeps the registry working properly and can also save memory space.

Probably the simplest app. to do this is Memmaid which has a good GUI but SK Tools is also quite easy to use and is far more comprehensive than Memmaid, having 31 diferent functions.

Pocket Mechanic will also clean the registry or do a System Cleanup but it is really best used for checking, defragmenting or formatting memory cards, which I find very seldom necessary.

Suggest that you try the trial downloads and see which you like best.

SK Tools looks really good. I notice that it also has a backup facility. Is it comparable to Sprite Backup?

Every time I've tried to clean out the registry with either of these programs, my pocketpc stops syncing altogether. I really can't recommend either of these as being useful.
The invention of the flamethrower suggests that someone thought, "you know, I'd really like to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just too lazy to walk."

That doesn't sound too good. Do you use anything instead or just not bother?

I have used all three. Never had any problem on any of my devices. Use the trials and see which one you like best.

I use both MemMaid and Pocket Mechanic. They are not completely the same...each has individual advantages/characteristics. Never had any trouble with either, and used both as trials first.

No. Not really. Sprite Backup can :-

1. Compress backup files fo save about 50% space.
2. Produce self restoring *.exe backup files which you only need to run to do a full restore.
3. Can be scheduled to do backups either daily or weekly.

And has many other features as well.

Quite simply essential software IMO.

Glad you like SK Tools. Like several others I have all three utilities, but I think SK Tools is the best.

I also use both.

Pocket Mechanic = CRAP!

I literally just installed (as in 15 minutes ago) Pocket Mechanic on my X30H because my 1Giger is displaying odd charaters. The POS Pocket Mechanic keeps freezing my Axim each and EVERY time. I've even used it with a completely different SD card and STILL the same results. Pocket Mechanic is a waste and I do not recommend it to anyone.

MemMaid, on the other hand, is very usefull if used carefully. You could wind up deleting pertainent files and the programs that used those files stop working (i.e. Avantgo), so proceed with caution. Deleting Cookies and Internet Temp files, etc., is definitely a breeze with MemMaid. I highly recommend it (again, be mindfull of EXACTLY what you're deleting before deleting).
