Question Does Sprite backup your storage card?

Something I just did hosed my storage card [still can't figure out what ]. I have a recent backup on my home PC, but I couldn't find any info on Sprite's site about this, so (of course) I came to where the experts hang. Anyone?

It does (it's called persistent storage, and includes BIS as well), but I'm not sure if it's there by default though.

It CAN include persistent storage but you do have the option not to select it, which may explain your smaller backup files. Also, keep in mind that the restore files are highly compressed.

do you know how to turn on the option so if you have to do a hardreset and something really messes up, like with what just happened to me, to restore a backup without sprite backup actually installed?

i cant seem to find anything about this

I don't have the latest version, but try going to Options - Backup Options and check Create Self Restoring Backup Files. You need to be in Advanced Mode.

The FAQ on the Support section of Sprite's site addresses the questions above.

As it turns out, when I got home and synced using my cradle via USB, everything was still on the Storage Card! I sync at work via BT, so perhaps that was the problem? Weird.....

Another question: on my PDA, I can exclude or include 'persistent storage'; on my PC there is an option to do the same to 'non-volatile memory'. Are these the same thing? If so, why not use the same term? Programmers....

What do you mean everything was still on the storage card?

Yeah, persistent storage should be the same as non-volatile memory.

What do I mean? Well, while connected to my work PC via BT, I was copying some eBooks over to my storage card. The Axim's screen flashed a couple of times, and when I browsed the storage card to verify the files had copied, 80% or so of what I usually keep there appeared to be gone. I checked again to make certain, and yep, all gone. So I went home, synced with cradle, and when I browsed the card, everything showed up as it should have. I've not seen this happen before, and I'm sure not complaining. So, I can only assume it has something to do with syncing via BT, unless someone can come up with another explanation. In any event, I am doing a complete backup as I post this, BIS, card, the whole shootin' match.

Ah, ok. If you have a card reader, the easiest way to backup your memory cards would just be to copy the entire contents of it to your desktop. That's also a faster way to transfer your books as well (i.e., from desktop to Axim). BT and ActiveSync are sloooooow.....
