Most mounts are made for a specific gadget.  The benefit is a great fit, but when you sell your gadget then your mount becomes worthless.  Further, custom fit mounts don't allow you to carry your gadget in a protective case.  Personally, I don't like removing my HP iPaq Rx5915 from its case.  And when I am visiting customers that would mean I may place my iPaq in the mount many times in one day - as I use it for gps.  Hence, I would constantly have to remove and replace the case.

BoxWave has given me the opportunity to test its universal Mobile Mounting Solution.  Hopefully it can fit my iPaq in its case.

The mount comes with the universal cradle, a swivel windshield suction cup mounting pedestal and a set of vent mounting clips.  They claim it holds items with a width from 1.6" to 4.25".  My iPaq is made to be viewed in landscape view, and it's quite wide.

As you can see, it fits - barely.  Without the leather case it would fit much easier.  The mount is open as wide as possible for my iPaq.  The arms are padded and even when outstretched at their max, they are solidly holding on.  But with the case on, my iPaq is 4.75" wide.  I had to remove the two pads from the upper arms to make it fit.

I am using a ProClip Vehicle Mount because I don't like anything on my windshield or vents.  The above photo shows there are 3 knobs you can use to adjust the angles you prefer to mount your kit.  The ball joint is made of metal and provides a wealth of angles.  The rest is plastic but it's heavy gauge and built to last.

Above is a top view.  You can really customize your viewing angle, height and disance from you by changing the three angles where the knobs are.  In this view I changed the angle of the ball joint relative to the previous picture.  This way the kit is farther from my reach and higher up.  I played with many different configurations to arrive at my prefered view.

Boxwave charges a discounted web price of $32.95.  I think it's well worth it.  It is very solid, flexible and well thought out.  I wish it would open another 1/2" wide, but I'm probably in the minority, as the 4.25" width is sufficient for most applications.  Also, with flexibilty come many knobs and plastic, which forces the whole kit to stick out from the dashboard a bit more than I like.  However, I suspect most people will mount it on their windshield and would appreciate the length.  But overall I am extremely pleased and recommend it highly.
