Do you remember when you needed to edit your config.sys and autoexec.bat files just to make games work without complaining that you had too little conventional memory(/EMS/XMS)?

..when it wasn't a choice between onboard sound and a sound card, but between the PC speaker and Soundblaster (or Adlib, or Roland, or whatever), if you had one?

..when CPU's didn't need any heatsinks or fans?

..when Windows was more of a frontend than an OS?

..when the Internet was (relatively) innocent and ad-free?

..when you saw a neat polygon-based flight simulator, and your friend said, 'Polygons will never catch on'?

..when you reduced the game screen size instead of disabling a bunch of 3D effects?

..when EGA looked like a vast improvement?

I remember running Doom from a RAMdisk. It was still choppy and slow on my 386SX/25.
