Should know that the amount of commercials you guys have to suffer is obscene. Still as long as we don't go down the same route I will be quite happy.

S/K - I always enjoyed that fact when we were stationed in Wales and watching the BBC. Very few commercials.

Should know that the BBC is a non-commercial broadcaster as it is funded by us, the mugs and has never shown any commercials but if they did then every single one of us mugs would stop paying our licence fee immediately. When you were here there were probably only three channels of which only ITV showed commercials. Possibly four if you are really old.:)

Because of the BBC we probably pay more for our television then any other country in the civilised world, if you take Sky into the equation. For example I pay £560 per year subscription to Sky, £160 to Setanta (Sports Broadcaster) and approximately £150 to the BBC. Welcome to rip-off Britain.

S/K - We were there in the early/mid 70's. I think we had 3 channels. BBC1 & 2, ITV? I think there might also have been a UTV in there too. But, it didn't come out of England and a lot of the shows were the same as ITV. :)

Since I was in the military, the U.S. Gov't paid for our subscription. I remember someone came to our house one day thinking we were stealing the TV channels because we hadn't paid. A British couple had lived in the house before us and they hadn't switched over the information. As soon as I started talking to them, they said everything was O.K. I guess they knew I wasn't British. :laugh.

Should know that sounds about right. UTV might have been Ulster TV and the difference in programming would probably only have applied to local news etc. We used to get STV but now it's all under the ITV umbrella.

S/K - I pay about $1,600 per year, which is about £940? But, I do get two premium channels (HBO & Stars).

Should know that you will have to explain what you get for your money, including premium channels, before I can compare but it sounds like we may not be paying too much after all. What do HBO and Stars give you that the other channels can't? We don't have premium channels as such but we do have additional channels available via Sky that we have to pay extra for, e.g movie channels and sports channels and, if you are so inclined, there are adult channels available. We only use them when Box visits as he's a bit shy if you know what I mean.

S/K - Your Sky is similar to my cable. HBO and Stars are movie premium channels.

Should know then that I take it all back and maybe we don't pay way too much for this after all, it just seems that way. I won't even begin to talk about petrol prices or I shall begin to cry.

Should know that I may have access to 500+ FTA satellite channels but I 'only' use about 15 at a regular scheme

On special occasions Al Jazeera, Cuba TV and Russian TV News (in english) can be quite interesting :o

S/K - I have the same dilemma. 350 channels and we probably watch 20 -25 at the most.
