I have some more to add on this later, but I'll leave you with that one to chew on for a little bit ...

just as an aside . . . here is a link, albeit religious in nature, that tries to establish the validity of jesus' claims about himself. many references to ancient writings, scholars, etc. may be something to check out . . .

I stopped reading the book to early to know if it was from Alice, but I know it was in a song "What I am"

I'm not aware of too many things
I know what I know, if you know what I mean
I'm not aware of too many things
I know what I know, if you know what I mean
Philosophy is the talk on a cereal box
Religion is the smile on a dog
I'm not aware of too many things
I know what I know, if you know what I mean, d-doo yeah

Choke me in the shallow waters
Before I get too deep

What I am is what I am
Are you what you are or what?
What I am is what I am
Are you what you are or

I'm not aware of too many things
I know what I know, if you know what I mean
Philosophy is a walk on the slippery rocks
Religion is a light in the fog
I'm not aware of too many things
I know what I know, if you know what I mean, d-doo yeah

Choke me in the shallow water
Before I get too deep
Choke me in the shallow water
Before I get too deep

What I am is what I am

What I am is what I am
Are you what you are or what?

What I am is what I am

What I am is what I am

Nah-nah-nah-nah
I say, I say, I say
I do hey-hey-hey-hey-hey-hey

Choke me in the shallow water
Before I get too deep

What I am is what I am

Oh man. I go away to work and come back to a thread about song lyrics and smilies???? Well, guess what, it’s not gonna work. I’m taking this back onto topic (or at least closer).

As I said, my intent with the comment in the original post was not to imply what any one, Christians or non Christians, are doing with their own children. I was merely expressing what I believed/hoped that I would have done and by expressing it, to paint a picture of my own attitudes toward religion. and I suppose to pay a compliment to Star although I’ll keep this fact somewhat to myself so none of his personalities get a swelled head. It sounds like there’s not enough room in there as it is.

A fair statement would be something like, "I believe with all my heart that Jesus was the savior" ... not, "I know that Jesus was the savior". That is what I take issue with.
X,
That’s a good point although I’ve often heard the phrase you used, “I believe with all my heart…” expressed by people as “I know with all my heart…” and not just in the context of religious issues. While your definitions are completely correct, I wonder if popular use (maybe even due to geographical differences) has resulted in some people using the word know in this context automatically. I do agree completely with you that it’s pretty hard to swallow when it’s followed by “and you’re going to hell if you don’t also believe this.” Like Mrs. Scheisskopf, that’s not the kind of G-d I don’t believe in.

I appreciate you trying to bring the thread back on topic :p

I can see your point about the know vs. believe thing. Maybe it's as simple as symantics and not worth arguing. It's just one of my pet peeves when people say that they know where they're going when they die or that they know the truth. Based on the simple fact that there are so many different Christian denominations pretty much proves that none of them have direct contact with a god.

Anyway, I plan to raise my kids with knowledge of all religions and let them decide for themselves what they want to believe in. I'd hate to condemn them to hell if I'm wrong! On the other hand, if Hinduism is the winner, I'd like to think I gave them at least a good chance of reincarnation!

This page references most of the info I spoke of earlier.

http://www.whoisjesus-really.com/english/claims.htm

It is at least interesting reading, even for skeptics. It is the most complete explaination of Who Jesus says he is, and as good basis for believing it that I have seen to date.

Question

Um ... were there other links that I was supposed to follow on that page? Because all I saw was a short summary and a bunch of Biblical quotes.

For example:

"He said he was Lord and God. The evidence supports that claim."

What evidence?
