i am just curious . . . based on the thread revolving around the same sex marriage issue, what philosophy/ideas are out there concerning what happens when we die. i am not after debate, only what thoughts anyone might have. not only am i curious just for curiousities sake - but i am toying with using the info at some point for a research paper in my major field - psychology. i think anyone who read through the same sex marriage thread knows my opinion!
thanks ahead of time for your thoughts.

Hmmm....this could be a good one.
I believe that for every individual on this planet there is a philosophy about what happens when we die. I'm assuming you are more concerned with the "spiritual" nature of death as opposed to the physical. We, of course, know what happens at he physical level. So, to start the ball rolling.....I'll know when I get there. But what I suspect happens is nothing.

I'll have time to worry about it when I'm dead.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

My opinion - You die. End of story.

Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.

I believe I will be immediately in the presence of my creator and will hear "Well done my good and faithful servant". I do not claim to be perfect...just forgiven. I do not contend that I deserve this more than anyone else. I do not believe that I get to decide who goes, for it is not my party...I have just responded to the invitation.
I believe many answers here will be one day fullfilled. I believe that Hell is merely complete seperation from God. With out God there is nothing. So for many of us here I believe they are correct and that there will be a whole lot of nothing for them to find. And.... I sincerely do hope to see all of you in God's presence! I am certain I will be surprised at both who's there and who's not! I am very much enjoying my life......so If in the end I am wrong I have lost nothing.

I think you're confusing the difference between there being an "afterlife" of nothing and there literally being nothing.

Not at all. Maybe it's just my interpretation.
If there is nothing then there is nothing. You said Quote:
Make sense? I won't be around to find nothing. IMHO There will simply be nothing.

I'm not sure what to believe about that. I'm not one to say we just die though....
that would be a horrible waste. (of a good soul)

Occam was such a stud. LOL
The Law of conservation of matter and energy applies to us as well. the energy that is us, is released when we die. It goes out into the world at large becoming part of everything. Kinda like the force but less hollywood. My energy will not help a soccer mom lift a minivan off her kid. I wish it could but it can't.
