Depends on how you define fight. Did I shoot at people - Yes. Do I know if I hit them - No. They were hiding/shooting at us from the jungle. We fire back and they typically ran. And, searching for enemy bodies was a no-no. Too many booby traps.
Ps - No hand to hand combat.

Only be ashamed of those who look down on Vets. Many folks were and are appreciative. I think having more TV coverage inside Iraq has let people know what it's like and the problems that exist. :)
It's easy to sit back on the couch and say what that soldier should have done. Try being in that Humvee (or Swift Boat like me) when shots start being fired at you. Then tell me you won't shot at anything that moves. O.K. - I'd better get off my soapbox.

That was very new when I went in country. I did get to meet Capt. Bucklew when he visited in '69. My duties were primarily repair and maintenance of the Comm, RADAR, and sensor equipments. I never went on assault missions. I did do some partol missions. I was only there for six months. After that, I went on to another school and eventually went on the USS Enterprise for a couple of cruises to Nam. Definitely a different atmosphere than being in country. :)
