Thanks Kc. What was working with the teams like in Nam? I'm leaning toward the Seals.
SEALs are a tough breed of sailors. It was tough working with them in NAM because all to often they didn't come back from their missions. They are good at their jobs and extremely professional. But, doing it for 20+ years would be difficult. When/if you retire, the skills you have don't translate into a civilian field. Unless you're planning to be a mercenary. SWAT would be as close as you'd find.
sorry guys!! I plan to spend my whole working life in the Navy. I plan to enlist, but they pay you more if you have some credits.
After about 30 years they'll force you out. Of course, you could retire and not work. I was only 44 when I retired. So, sitting home would not have been practical with a wife and two kids.
With two years of credits you'll go in as a Seaman (E-3), I assume. Unless things have changed. Depending on the school you attend, you may get advanced to E-4 at graduation. :)
I went in as a Seaman too. I made E-4 from an advancement exam before my school graduation. It put me about 6 months ahead of the rest of my class. That may be harder now than it was then. I just had to do all the courses and practicals before the exam date. :rolling:
No problem. Good advice can help your career. You definitely want to finish your Bachelors degree before you go up for Chief. Way before would be betrter. A Masters would look great on an eval for chief. You'll also want to be one of the best in your rating. :)
For your enlistment, make sure the schools are guaranteed in writing. I've seen too many kids go to boot camp thinking they'd get into a certain school, only to find out they didn't qualify and weren't guaranteed that particular school.
Yep. I know you have to get want you want in writing. I read about guys that wanted to go to Bud/s and were sent off on some paint scrapeing job, because it was not in writing.
