I've had problems with a Lexar SD card - files corrupted, dot-directories appearing, Axim asks to format card when inserted, etc. Dell has said (on the Dell forum - clicky - ) that it's the SD card manufacturers fault and not Dells.
I've sent my Lexar card back to be replaced, and I've got a SimpleTech card on order.
However after chatting to a LexarMedia TechSupport bloke he wanted to see that link and also Dell stating that it was the card manufacturers fault in writing. He didn't sound too happy with Dell..

Dell Reps

AXIM support is in India and the guy who told me about the 64mb being the most at this time was a supervisor.

Whitehorse13,

It wasn't 'louis' by any odd chance was it? I seem to get him a lot when I call.

Hmm SanDisk 128MB

I've had the same problem with the SanDisk card too, attempted formatting on the Axim etc . . but to no avail.

In the end I purchased a 6 in 1 card reader (£25). Since formatting the card using the card reader (FAT16) I have seen no problems. It is happily storing data and running apps.

Also another advantage is that the card reader is a hell of a lot faster than the axim at transferring data to the card. I can throw MP3's at my card and fill it in a fraction of the time it takes to do it via the axim!

Some info from my Lexar SD card supplier:

--------------------------
I have some good news or at least a good explanation regarding the problems you had with your Dell. I finally was contacted by the head of technical support at Lexar and he explained that indeed a number of their SD cards will not work properly with Dell Axims or Palm Tungstens. Apparently, Lexar is not yet manufacturing and designing their own Secure Digital cards, but are working with other OEMs. These other manufacturers make the cards for Lexar.

More than likely the card you got one with a SanDisk controller. Apparently there is a block of cards with certain serial numbers that have this problem.

This Technical Support fellow was aware of your name and said he had been contacted by Lexar UK and that a replacement card has been sent to you. It will be one with a different controller inside and it will be fine. Have you received this yet? If they did not ask for the other card back, then consider it an item you can sell on Ebay and get some money for! I hope that this means all will be resolved with the card and the problems you had. In another few months, Lexar will be making their own cards and hopefully they will be sure to work out any bugs before distribution.
--------------------------

Hope this info helps.

Basically sod Sandisk - and be careful with certain Lexar cards

Nope, don't know what the serial / lot numbers are - YET.

I think however it does suggest that (a number of) Sandisk SD cards ARE KNOWN not to work in the Axim.

UPDATE:
SimpleTech have told me that they use Hitachi controllers in their SD cards. So I guess that any SD card that has a Sandisk controller could cause a problem... And that's not just Sandisk cards...

SD Card

I had problems with my sandisk SD card as well. Seems to be a bit different than described here. With my card installed, it would take forever to open programs like word, excel, notes...anything tjhat scanned memory to create a list of files for that specific program. If I removed the card...no issue and the list would pop right up. Otherwise, with the card in it would take >30 seconds to open a file...even if the file was not on the SD card!!

Dell replaced the Axim and I am waiting for a replacement card from SanDisk.

Anyone have an issue like this?

Returned My 64mb Card and...

I returned my 64mb SD card to Sandisk and received a new replacement the other day. I put the card into my Axim and...the card still refuses to function right. I thought it may be my Axim but I also use a PNY card as well as an old card by Simple without any problems. I have also noted that the package now states "Designed for Palm" (my old pkg did'nt). Guess i'll give the card to my wife to use in her palm ;)

Has anyone talked to Dell about this or is every one just speculating as to what the problem is. Just to let you know I am going to talk to Dell on Thursday about this because it is only happening to the SD slotfor some reason and it dosent matter what card I use weither it be verbadium or sandisk so dell needs to own up to this problem and let us know how they propose to fix the problem. Either send us a new line with no SD problems or send us a patch to fix it cause i did not spen the amount of money I did to not be able to use my Dell like i should be able to. I will let you know as soon as i am done talking to dell about this and what they are going to do with mine and every one elses that seam to be having this problem...... Were pissed and were not going to take it anymore... mob mantality .. I love it.

Here is the thread from the Dell site Axim forum of the same issue.
check out their moderator comments. They claim it is a SD mfgr issue.
