Yes, I tried the standard Dell format of FAT16, and several configurations of FAT16/FAT32 created by StorageTools and I can accurately reproduce the problem by simply installing a large application to the memory card regardless of configuration. I've already got my RMA from Dell and bought 4 replacement cards (1 Memorex and 3 Lexar) from CompUSA about 30 minutes ago. So far I can't make it crash - and I've tried hard.

He said that it's the metallic label on the SanDisk cards that is shorting out just enough to corrupt the card.
That can't be true because I have no problems anymore ever since I've been using my 6 in 1 reader. It's only when I use the Axim to move files around.

Try to format it with http://www.softwinter.com/storagetool.html as fat16..
If it ever happens again, I'll definitely try that. But I don't feel like formatting my card right now and losing all my data to see if it fixes it. :)

Hmm Sandisk SD Cards Suck Rocks

Another user here that has had a bad run with Sandisk SD Cards.

First 256MB card began acting up less than 3 weeks after purchase. Fortunately, I believe in backups, and had a recent one of the card.

Formatting the card is the only thing that would bring it back, and within a few days, the entire process would be repeated.

Called Sandisk support... first thing out of the guys mouth was "sounds like a compatibility issue".

I challenged that, because the fact is... the card eventually fails in my camera, my Axim, AND my card reader.

Tech support suggested I return it to point of purchase.. which i did. Got a new 256MB SD card, it didn't last a week. Called Sandisk support again, they gave me a case number and asked me to return the card to them directly via a return box they would sent out. That was 3-week ago. Still no return material.

The Sandisk SD card had gotten to the point it would not make an entire day, so ordered a new SimpleTech 256MB SD card... received it one week ago today. NO PROBLEMS, works perfectly. I've repeated the same things I did with the Sandisk card that would make it quit working (full backups, large file transfers, installation of software).

IMHO.. STAY AWAY FROM SANDISK PRODUCTS. I say this as a LONNNNNNG time user of Sandisk too. Since '92, when they were "Sundisk".

My 2c's

Actually, that lends more credit to the short-out theory. Your card reader may not press down on the top of the card as much as the Axim does, so it doesn't short out during writes.

I presume SD cards have separate read and write circuitry (most flash memory devices do), so it could cause a short in the write circuit, without causing problems when reading.

To those of you with San Disk SD card troubles: Do you take your Axim jogging, have dropped it, or done other high-movement activity? That could explain why some users have troubles, and people like me have no trouble.

Mad

Yep, mine went in the dumper last nigh and now I can't do anything with it. The Axim asks to re-format it but when I respond yes it just sits there, I tried StorageTools and it can't even "find" the card. This sucks...and based on what I've read on the Dell support message board the problem is rampent!

SimpleTech

I was close to buying a SanDisk SD card but came across a SimpleTech 128MB SD card at Sam's Club for $47. Bought it and store MP3's on it right out of the package with no problems. After reading all the posts about SanDisk problems I'm sooooo glad, I found the SimpleTech.

I've just replied in that thread to get more attention to the problem.... dell seem to stay out of the discussion :crooked:

I'm having trouble to get my card swapped for another brand so I'm trying to find out what is causing the crash..

ed. To clarify -- I have a Sandisk CF card. Are both the Sandisk SD and CF cards failing?

My Sandisk 256CF fried last night. Same "CF Card2 warning" message. Ended up reformatting.

Has anyone successfully recovered after getting this message and NOT lost their data?

Also, what brand CF card would you folks recommend for those of us returning our Sandisks back to Dell?

Thanks,
Ray

I filled out the supportform at sandisk.com and they've replied with a RMA form.

Mailed it back... let's see what they will come up with.
