Mine used to do the same. I just closed the door, or walked away, and told her to come talk to me when she had calmed down.

Just don't go to far in the other direction. keep in mind kids need to learn to: make their own decisions, a good work ethic, and know they're loved even if they get punished. Let them know what has to be done (chores) when it has to be done and the consequences of not doing them. With mine it was not talking on the phone or going anywhere until their chores were done. Of course, today you need to add the Internet. My kids didn't have that or cell phones in the 80s.

I guess I was different then. I didn't appreciate them any less when I was away in the military. I did miss them though.

I'm the same way Senior Chief. The day after they left after comming to my BC Grad was hard. But I'm busy and that keeps me from missing them too much...
