I used to have a detachable car stereo with a audio jack built right into the face, since my broke my deck the other day I think I'll look for another one like that.

What Planet-Ed posted would be good if you dont have a cassette player in your car. Otherwise you would just get the cassette adapter, which would probably be cheaper.
The FM adaptors have a reuptation of frequency drift. That means you have to readjust the adaptor's frequency to keep it tuned in to the radio. Some people have said it can be quite a pain for some units. All in all, the casette adaptor seems to work pretty good, unless you get one that binds, so the casette player auto-reverses. (Or unless your car doesn't have a casette player.)

The world may not be perfect yet, but the Axim is (almost).
I've personally never had a problem with the FM Modulators. They work great for me, and have never experienced any drifting. I can tell a noticeable difference in quality between it and the casette adapter when listening to some stuff (mainly Jazz). I haven't used one with my Axim however, it is currently being used by my XM.
most new stereos have an rca input into the back of the decks. YOu can easly make a midi to rca cable or buy one and use that

I use the Irock music adapter that transmits from my Ax to a selected FM frequency. Got it at Radio Shack for $30. Works well enough for me. It uses 2 AAA batteries which seem to last quite a while & I use rechargeables anyway.
I was wondering if i could use one of those cassette adaptors to feed voice commands from Tom Tom 2 to the car speakers, I,m just anticipating the volume problem from the Ax speaker, has anyone tried this??
Replies/advice appreciated..
Sorry I haven't tried it, coz I haven't got TomTom, but if it has a regular headphone jack then there is no reason why it shouldn't - like I said, I use it on my portable cd player, and axim, all standard sizes (only problem if you've got a new Ipaq with a unusual sized connection.
Depending on your car, and whether or not you have an additional CD changer, there are options to use the CD changer jack for an input. http://www.pie.net/catsec12x.htm
