Using Visual Basic to design windows mobile 5.0 apps

Hi, I have a quick question about using VB design apps for WM 5.0...I currently plan to some WM 5.0 device in the near future (prolly x51), and I'm currenly designing a simple little local database program, and would like it to run on WM 5.0....anyway, I'im using VB 6.0 and read somewhere that in order for it to run on WM 5.0, I need to port it to VB .NET then install the .NET runtime packages to the PPC. So, my question is: do I actually need to port it to VB .NET? and if so, how?
Programming isn't exactly my specialty, infact, this is my first venture into programming...networking is more my specialty........speaking of networking...should I go for CCNA certififcation or MCSE/MCSA? and why?

Thanks much in advance!
