Dell Will Not Extend Previous Warranty!
When I purchased my X50v, I only paid for 1 year of the Dell warranty, which ends in 27 days. I called Dell today to purchase additional warranty coverage only to be so kindly informed that "Dell Does Not Do That, and we are so sorry."
I am in the service business and my employeer uses Dell PowerEdge Severs in our Product Configuations. (We are moving to HP servers because of Dells extremely poor field service support and the cost they charge for what they don't do). When we make the switch, Del will lose a multi-million dollar contract all due to poor service and cheaply constructed hardware. They have been shipping bad lots to the field which arrive DOA.
Anyway, I know for a fact that Dell allows you to purchase additional warranties towards the PE, why not the Axim? Here is my point, for the last year, I have not had to implement the warranty of my Axim so Dell made $$ when I purchased the warranty. You would think that Dell would want to take my money and offer me the option to purchase more coverage. Gateway allows me to extend coverage on my desktop. So what's up with Dell?
Now that I will no longer have a warranty on my X50v, I am considering extending the memory.

I'm guessing you got through to some n00b support person who doesn't know what they're on about. Dell extend the warranty on everything. My company does have a lot of bad experience with Dell: Damaged LCD screens, noisy and damaged HDD's in PC's, dead power adapters for laptops, everything. If my company could afford it, we'd get Sun servers and tell Dell to !?@!$!".
I'd give it another shot and hope that you get through to somebody who knows what they're on about.

Yes, obvoiusly they extend the Warranty.
I extended mine, just to realize that when I bought my Axim, it included an aditional year!. They cancelled the order without problem.
But it proofs that they do extend the warranty LOL

I ordered an Axim and forgot to add the 3 year warranty. I called the next day, but could not purchase the warranty. I was told it had to be at the time of original order. I hadn't even received the Axim yet. So, I sent the Axim back once I received it, and ordered another one with the extended warranty. The second one I actually paid less for at Dell outlet!

This conversation with Dell took place about three months ago.
I had no interest in extending my one year warranty until Dell anounced that the X50v would, for all sakes and purposes, continue for another year as the X51v. With plans to buy the WM 5 update, I figured I'd buy a second year of warranty at the same time. In fact, I suggested to the Dell Rep that Dell might consider packaging a second year of warranty WITH the WM 5 disc as part of a special value package. This would also be a great value for Dell, because nothing is more profitable than getting money in advance, which may or may not ever get paid out as a future claim.
I was informed that this would be impossible because some post warranty people would take advantage of such an offer to send in previously defective AXIM X50's under the new warranty that they had just purchased. (Note Dell's inherent thinking here: "Our customers are always looking for a way to screw us.")
Then, I said, OK, just offer it to those, like myself, who are STILL under warranty. That way you won't get any surprises.
She replied, I'll bring this idea to the attention of my superiors.
I guess that was polite way to end a call.

Hmm... kinda makes me think they expect break-downs after a couple years...

I agree with the others here. You must have gotten someone who knew nothing about the Dell policy, because you can indeed extend it if you want.

I purchase my X51 a week ago and this morning called Dell and added a two year extended warranty without any issues. The rep was more than happy to help!

Dell Hires Knuckle Heads!
Well,
I just purchased an addtional 2 year exteneded warranty on my year old X50v. I had no issues and it cost me after taxes $118.00.
For the sake of principle, I am about to lambast Dell fro hiring a knuckle Head for informing me that they could not extend my warranty.

She was NOT from India.
We may have a hard time understanding those in India. And we may not like the fact that U.S. jobs are going to Asia, but we cannot deny the fact that those in India are very smart and highly educated.

You'll love this. Just got off the phone with Dell about extending AximX50v warranty. Here's the skinny.
If you purchased Dell's Complete Care Warranty (Technical Service/Advanced Exchange/ AND Accidental Damage Service you cannot extend it once your purchase is complete. If you only purchased the Technical Service/Advanced Exchange warranty you can extend it while still under warranty.
Well then, I asked, "Can I pay to extend only the Technical Service/Advanced Exchange portions of my warranty for another year, and I just won't have the Accidental Damage coverage?"
NO, Dell will not let you do that! Once you have chosen a Complete Care Warranty you cannot even extend just the basic portions included in this more comprehensive warranty.
We don't make these things up folks. Too strange.

Hopefully new Axim will survive for 2 years from today, scratch that it will survive: I got the complete care coverage too. That will ALMOST bring it into the year 2008 and I'm sure by then it will be a bit out of date.
