Service Tags on Replacement Units

I am reminded once again why I hate dell customer service and technical support.

I'm having some issues with my Axim and want to chat with technical support. I enter my service tag and the system does not recognize it as home or home office so I am not eligible for technical support. My Ax is identified as being from Dell Canada. Ok, whatever.

So I head on over to customer service to get the service tag issue taken care of because you cannot get assistance from tech support unless you have a valid service tag. November 1 I am promised that it will be transferred within 48 hours. So I check back November 3 and it still has not been transferred. Another chat session and I am promised it will be done in no more than 24 hours - that they have escalated the matter.

Well, here we are on November 4 and guess what? That dang service tag still has not been transferred. The new agent I got on chat has assured me that it will transferred within 3-4 business days, that it normally takes 8-10 days. WTF

Now I like to think that I am a level headed person but I am really seeing red right now. See, my warranty expires in 1 month. So of course I would be having problems now. And no one seems to be able to take care of this. And I am being told that speaking to someone on the phone will not resolve this any quicker. I am afraid that customer service is going to keep giving me the run around and my service tag will not get transferred until after my warranty expires. Things sure seem to be headed in that direction.

The moral of the story is: If you get a replacement unit, check your service tag ASAP to ensure it is registered correctly or you could be stuck in a situation like mine.

Sorry, I should've said replacement unit, not refurb.

Dell Outlet sells refurbs, as far as I know.

9 days later and it still has not been done. What a surprise.

I had the exact same problem when I received my replacement (refurb) unit. Then I had a problem with that one. It takes a few weeks for the transfer to occur - unless you keep calling and complaining to have them expidite the transfer. If you reach the right rep it takes less than an hour for that to process.

Did you return the unit this is replacing?
If not, tell them you will return that when the new unit is fully transfered and registered.
