apple platform or Windows

Hey everyone,

I have a toshiba latop with centrino technology and i got to University of Miami. I was thinking about upgrading my laptop soon, mine is two years old. I mean its not obsolete but i want something new. I bought an X50v and Thinkoutside so i could take notes instead of bringing the laptop. I was starting to really take a liking to apple computers. I really like the way they look and i have talked to a few people who said they like the platform. I just wanted to get some views of you guys here on the platform and i out a survey just to see what you guys have and like. Thanks for your input if you wanna tell me why i should go with this or that

Yeah...it is très strange...to have a thread called "apple platform or Windows," and include a poll of eight notebook manufacturers, and not include Apple.... Ummm.....

Anyway, iBook G4/800. The first iteration of the G4 iBooks. I guess I will get an Intel-based iBook next year. I love it, although the hard drive is getting pretty full, and Tiger is very picky about this issue, more so than Panther was, or Windows is in my experience, because of its built-in metadata searching....

You could wait until they release this, then dual boot MacOS and Windows if you really wanted too...

If not, I would go with a PC.

I have a bunch of mongrel PCs, Dell laptop (my wife's) and a Mac Mini, which I use as my primary home PC.

I think it would be best to clarify whether you're interested in people's opinions on which platform to opt for, or the brand of hardware they prefer.

Personally, I work in Windows (as I do next to no "visual" stuff; it's all text), and have traditionally had Dell laptops and PCs, although I currently have an IBM laptop (which is first class, I must say).

Slightly OT, but why is it everyone seems to think that Macs are better for visual stuff? I have more inputs on my PC than a Mac could ever dream of, and the software is so much better on the pc.

I'm perfectly happy with my Dell Inspiron 1000. It's very basic but it fits my needs and the price was really really right.

Mmmm... are there really any kinds of inputs you can install on a PC that you cannot install on a PowerMac? I'm not so sure about that. Or about the software being "so much better." My visual work is limited to photoshop for my art photography, but Final Cut Pro and the other apps for Macs are generally regarded to be very good by the industry.

I think the PC apps are good too. I think the Mac perception of advantage in this area is mostly residual from the old days, to be honest. But saying that you can't "dream of" these things on MacOS is probably distorting the truth just as far in the opposite direction.
