We saw it on Saturday at 3:50 p.m. and the theater wasn't quite full. My 11-year-old son loved it and my 9-year-old daughter was okay, except that she covered her eyes in the cemetary scenes. I think the PG-13 rating was right on, especially after the hot tub scene. I've read all of the books and watched all of the first 3 movies multiple times but walked out of The Goblet of Fire not saying "WoW!" Still, I liked it, but it didn't "fire" me up.

So are you guys saying that adults read the books and see the movies and enjoy it? This isn't just for kids?
That's exactly it. I resisted even looking at one of the books because I thought it was a kids series for a long time. Once I picked The Sorcerer's Stone I was hooked. It goes without saying that the books are better than the movies, but the movies are still pretty good. Goblet of Fire is my favorite. The kids were not scared like I figured they'd be (Rachel had to leave the theater when we saw Prisoner of Azkaban when the dementors came out - she was 9).

Thanks for turning me on to this series. As soon as I'm done w/the Fluffy series I'll start on the Harry Potter series.
My daughter will be home from School for Tahnksgiving and we have a date to go Thanksgivng night. ALready bought the tickets. She made me promise to not go with out her. Looking forward to it.
Why Harry Potter? Nothing beats "the lord of the rings" trilogy. Specially if you´ve also read "The Hobbit" and "the silmarijion" (or however you write it!)...
GoF in my opinion is the best Harry Potter movie yet, so far.
I was sorely disappointed by PoA movie and had little expectation for GoF. That didn't stop me from lining up to see how I would be disappointed ;). But I was impressed. Considering GOF movie was even shorter than PoA movie, I thought there was NO WAY GoF could tell the whole story. I was wrong. There were deviations from the book but mostly I am OK with them.
Got to watch it again. May be tonight :-)
stevenator65, there are a huge adult following on Harry Potter series. Check this out, The Leaky Cauldron Forum.
I also resisted reading the books, for the same reason as Cheryl and for the fact that it was a "hype". I didn't start until after Goblet of Fire was published. Prisoner of Azkaban was the one that turned me into a loyal reader of the series. I haven't figured out which one since PoA is my favorite yet .
I highly recommend Jim Dale's audio books. He did all 6 Harry Potter books (U.S. version) and used different voices to interpret each character.

Since the first movie, I and my son go and watch the Harry Potter movies together, sought of becoming a Tradition for us, as well as the new Star Wars flicks:approve:

Saw the movie last night with my fiance for 50 cents. Ok so I had some free Fandango bucks laying around from a webinar I was "supposed" to watch but didn't but still got the Fandango bucks. I am a terrible person. Heh... Awesome movie.

Why does it have to be one or the other? I happen to be a huge LOTR fan as well.
True. I really enjoy both, as they're very different from one another. LOTR is high fantasy at it's best, and I've lost count of how many times I've reread the books over the years. HP doesn't even try to reach the same level, but is still very entertaining for both children and adults, and has probably the biggest and most advanced fan fiction I've ever seen in my life (want proof, google for the Psychic Serpent series, full alternative books for 5, 6 and 7 that are at least as good as JKR's work IMHO).
Can somebody tell me why the GOF is rated PG-13? I have youngsters that are 11 and 10 and I'm trying to figure out if they should see it or not. Any advice?

We took all of our kids to the movie - oldest is 10 and the yougest is 7. I had no problem with them watching it - heck, they all enjoy the LOTR movies :D
There is a bathtub scene with Harry - he is sitting in a huge tub and you can see his *gasp* chest. No nudity or anythng like that, though Moaning Myrtle is there with him and dives in the water and makes comments. That's the only area of the movie that comes to mind.
