Who Else will be Frying Turkeys this Thanksgiving?
Just wondering. I will be frying two maybe three depending on the guest list (it seems to be growing past the 20 mark at last count). And in the spirit of Thanksgiving I will share my best marinade / Injecting mix.
Dr. Pepper and cajun seasoning. Since I get my Cajun seasoning from my birthplace of Ville Platte, la. I cannot comment on the other store bought brands but I am sure they are all pretty much composed of the same seasonings but in varying mixtures.
No joke about the Dr. Pepper. I have over the last 15 or so years, used as a base: Beer (several kinds), Apple Juice, onion juice, and a variety of store bought brands but the family always votes to bring back the Dr. Pepper. If you have no tried it, you should branch out and give it a shot. I would love to hear from anyone else with their special style and recipe.
Fried Turkey is something that some love and some don't care for. I can tell you that no one has ever turned up their nose at one of mine...lol. My girls live for Thanksgiving and If I even considered not frying one there would be a revolt in the house. (Even my mother in law that whined and complained about having to have a fried Turkey (15 years ago) instead of an oven baked one has now become a firm supporter of the frying of the bird) We will of course have the Special ham as well as the tradional Southern dishs, Sweet potatos, stuffing, (out of the bird), etc. and Apple, pumpkin, sweet potato and pecan pies of course. Truly a pig out delight. And stevenator65 come on down, but stop by Carsons Ribs (Downtown location, its best) before you do and bring a couple of full racks with extra sauce before you make the trip.
Carsons has the best ribs I have eaten outside of the south.
I love fried Turkey, but just a warning to anyone who tries it... If at all possible, do it outside. You don't want to kick that sucker over... (it burns)

Your right. Safety is a major concern with that much hot oil. I set up a baricade around the frying area and keep the dogs and small children away, also my idiot brothers in law that could not pour water out of a boot. I also keep a fire extingusher handy just in case and keep the propane tank as far away as the hose will allow. And never, ever do it inside or close to the siding of a building.
But taking all that into count, its fast, its good and clean up is a snap. Save the oil after straining and I have a pump for that and its good to go until Christmas when its broken out again. :approve:
I'm frying 6 turkeys tomorrow. One for my family and five for friends. It's a good use of the fryer and hot oil once it gets going. Good way to spread that holiday sprit.
I never Had Fried Turkey before or ever saw one, But you guy's make it sound delicious, I and my wife recently saw in the store weekly flyer a Turkey Frier, and was wondering who uses thatEnjoy your ThanksGiving all, I wish I could try that Fried Turkey though:approve: ours will be oven baked:)
