Fun Math Trick

You may have seen this before, but for those who haven't it's really interesting:

1.Grab a calculator
2.Key in the first three digits of your phone number (not the area code)
3.Multiply by 80
4.Add 1
5.Multiply by 250
6.Add the last 4 digits of your phone number
7.Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again
8.Subtract by 250
9.Divide by 2

Do you recognize the answer?

The number of disappointed Cubby fans in West Chicago?

That was too easy. Have any more mathematical mind benders?

Ok, here's another. What's the largest number you can write with just 3 digits? If you like these I have plenty more.

x = first three digits of phone #,
y = last 4 digits of phone #

Here is a straight equation for the above:
(((((x * 80) + 1) * 250) + y + y) - 250 ) / 2

a little rearranging:
(((250 * (80x + 1)) + 2y) - 250) / 2
and spreading the / 2:
125 * (80x + 1) + y - 125
125 * 80x + 125 + y -125
125 * 80x + y
10000x + y

Uziah, that was a very cool formula. But if you make people solve it it's not as fun as a word problem .

E99? That's incorrect. What is that number? This problem uses actual numbers, not variables. Keep guessing. I have a feeling you're on the right track even though I don't know what E99 is.
