I've had both and couldn't notice much speed difference.
I think a current issue is the fact that a lot of programming isn't up-to-date for dual cores. It will be.
Welcome. Perhaps the small picture, but, your Avatar is looking a bit lets say, not too "handsome."

Yeah, but I think there was an article not long ago by (can't remember who) that did something similar to this, except they had all the Uber-Processors plus all the stuff your average user or even above average user would have in their box. Can't remember title or where though, so can't give link. Sorry.

AMD all the way have used the exclusively with little or no problem with heat speed is always comparable for the price range, price is always lower, very reliable but this battle just made me smile proved what I alread knew.

it depends what you do...real life use will always beat benchmarks IMO
also, they had an articles in RAM magazine (i dont have a link as it was in the magazine) showing amd is getting more expensive and intel is getting cheaper
I dunno, I recently downgraded my p4 3.06HT to an Athlon 64 3700+
The P4 was definatly faster for most things... no comparison. The Athlons don't seem to be good multitaskers!
Maybe you need a X2.
As for what I think, you can't really compare a 32 bit CPU and a 64 bit CPU. The 32 bit CPU may have some strong points for 32 bit programs, but the 64 bit CPU will have the advantage of native 64 bit support. A 32 bit CPU emulating 64 bits will get really slow!
64 bits is better, since that's what the future is going to, and 64 bits provides much more precision. (Really noticeable in Fear Factor where all the rounding errors add up!)
BTW, once I get my new data center completely configured, I'll be able to do a side-by-side comparison of a 2.8GHz P4 with HT and a 3000+ Athlon 64. It's even biased toward the P4 as it has more RAM, but so far, I could not get Fear Factor to render in realtime on the P4 as good a quality as it does on the Athlon 64. (Yes, I know about emulation, but I want smooth video and not a "slideshow".)

AMD has smoked intel, dollar-for-dollar, for years, while dedicated-task processing. Intel has had a tendency to multitask better. I wonder how much that gap has closed for the top-of-the-line CPU's.
